A friend of mine won an auction for the video Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. $40 for a video is high, but he has been unable to find it for awhile.

He got an email from the seller stating that it is a COPY from the PAL version, that it has good cover art.

Can you believe it? After checking his feedback, he only has 3 negs - and one says that he paid $170 for copies of a movie.

Geez, folks I could get rich with my collection of videos!

BTW, it was never released in the USA.

What do you suggest I tell my friend to do?

People sell copies of old (public domain) books and catalogs...
This may not be public domain by if he wants it, and can play it, I'd say go for it.
OTOH if he insists on an original he can politely back out...

Capotasto -

He has a video store so it has to be an original or he cannot legally rent it out.

Gee if he has a store ... but I guess he has already tried to contact the distributor of the video?

The government already beat you to the draw, U.S. money is already fake.

Yes I like that Idea If I bought a tape or Video or software and the seller sent me EOA stateing it was a copy That seller would get a scan copy of some play money from me.

or Iwould send the seller an IOU for the price when he delivers the real deal.

What really bugs me is this guy is getting big bucks for his copies. $170 to tape a video on a VCR?

WOW

Funny, if you make copies of the cash, you will be in BIGGER trouble than the pirated tape. Secret Service don't like it when we make copies of cash, and I just don't know why.

Tell your friend to send a copy of the email including headers to SafeHarbor. The seller doesn't belong on eBay. What he is doing is illegal.

Good luck with Safeharbor.

Someone has been selling photocopies of arcade machine manuals for the last 6 month. They show a picture of the actual manual, and in the description state "copy of original". People are receiving crappy photocopies and leaving him negative feedback.

However after I've turned him in 3 times to safe harbor, they will do NOTHING.. One (non -"form" repsonse they claimed that "copy of original" could mean "original copy" and therefore he isn't doing anything wrong. Of course when I replied and said "didn't you look at the feedback?" they never responded.

Basically you have to be the VERO owner nowdays or get VERY VERY lucky on getting a safeharbor person with a clue to get the auction shut down.

(This is of course if you're in the right and the person you're reporting is in the wrong. However if you're in the wrong and report a good seller, after posts seen here, it seems SH will happily kill the good seller for you
