Hello, I used to know this, but I don't remember now. What is MCMLXXVIII ?

And what do each of the letters mean? I know how IX is 9, etc, but I'm not so good with the others.

I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000

When a lower number follows a higher number, you "add" the amount.

Example:

VIII = 5 + 3 = 8
XII = 10 + 2 = 12
LXX = 50 + 20 = 70
CXI = 100 + 10 + 1 = 111
DLV = 500 + 50 + 5 = 555
MDCCXXIII = 1000 + 500 + 200 + 20 + 3 = 1723

When an I or X is in front of a larger number, you "subtract" that amount.

Example:

IX = 9
XC = 90
CM = 900
