I have a vase that looks very similar to ones I've seen in shops that say Roseville, which is pinkish in color, has two handles, with a raised pinecone and pine needles on the left side by the handle, sweeping across the vase to the lower right. It is marked on bottom...#55-6 1/2 and then under that it says USA. It does not say Roseville, but I wondered if there were Roseville that is unmarked? I haven't got a photo of it yet....

Hi,

According to my Roseville book, the Pinecone pattern came out in 1931, and there are several pieces listed as unmarked or having a paper label.

55-6 1/2 doesn't appear in my copy of Roseville By the Numbers, tho that's not necessarily definitive.

Hull Pottery also had a Pinecone pattern, produced in only one shape, that sounds a lot like what you describe. Can't say for sure without seeing a pic.

It sounds like Hull, Roseville never made any Pinecone pieces in pink.
Do a search on eBay under Pottery:Hull

It has been a while since I have handled Roseville or Hull Pottery but I thought I once had a Roseville vase with a high gloss finish that was "pinkish" with a pinecone motif (I am familiar with the brown and blue background of the matt finish pieces)

I hope you get a picture up for us to see.

There is a picture of a pink Hull Pinecone vase here.

It says to be careful as there are reproductions of it.

kiara, thank you for the link. I really enjoy Hull pottery.

yumacoot, the vase listed there looks like the one you are talking about and does come in Rose colored. You could probably email a picture to the website owner to see if it is a reproduction.

It's identical to the one at that website! So, I wonder how I will know if it is repro or the real thing?

If you do a search on ebay for Hull Pine cone or Hull Pinecone in the completed auctions you will find one vase with an impressed mark on the bottom and the other one with a black or brown mark that looks written or stamped on.

The one with the black or brown mark has a rather "flat" look to the vase but it is an iPIX picture so it is hard to judge.

I will admit that I do not know a lot about Hull pottery but the impressed or molded mark looks more like the original. Maybe someone else with more knowledge will be able to help you.

Thanks every one for your help! I will go to the USA website and see if that helps, someone at the swap meet who deals in antiques says (without seeing it) that is probably not a fake.....I hope not!
