I found this yesterday at a thrift shop. It was lying on the counter, and I picked it up to look at it while the cashier was ringing up my other items. It had a $30.00 price tag on it. She told me to "just take it if I wanted it because no one knows what it is and it will never sell for $30.00." I insisted on paying something, so she charged me $1.00. It looks interesting, but I can't figure out what it is used for.

It is made is Switzerland and has a serial number of "1520169" on it. It has both British patent and USA #s on it also. The thing that holds the blade slides up, then you can slide it back down. The dark bar in the center is tri-sided and is very hard. One side has a pad of some sort. It is an Allegro model E.

Here are pictures of front and back, and also the inside of the box and its lid.

Anyone know what this is and/or what it is used for?

Nanandme,

You need to edit your post to add "[/img]" to the end.

I will lock your other thread.

you need to edit your links so people can just click on them and not copy and paste...anyway...just looks like some sort of advertising display.

Found some preliminary info for you:

It is a stropper, or sharpener.
Here's a website with some examples, including Allegro.

http://user.tninet.se/~uqv930t/stropp2.htm

I saw another site that had these as a subcategory of a shaving collectibles site, but none of his images displayed. They were called double edged razor blade sharpeners. Is it the right size to sharpen one of those?

I don't know anything about these, but hopefully this will point you in the right direction [ edited by debbielennon on Jul 29, 2001 07:33 AM ]

I didn't even know they had those things. Isn't it cheaper just to replace the old blade?
