I have recently been informed by my DSL service provide that they will no longer be providing me service. YIKES! After looking at their website it said yes, service would continue. OK I am confused. Next day I call, on hold for 52 minutes and I had to go. Called later, held over 40 minutes and could not wait any longer. Next day, held for 75 minutes and was told that my service would continue under a different company and the new software etc would go in the mail soon. I asked all the question I could think of because no way was I going to have to call these guys back.
My big problem is my business email. Once the software is loaded my current email will not be accessable! (And must be loaded by 8/20/01 or I have no service at all). So I immediately set up a hotmail account. Now I am sitting here thinking I need to change my email all over the place. What/Where am I forgetting about.
Here is what I have come up with:
Ebay
AW
c2it
PayPal
Payingfast
USPS
Items not yet paid winner bidders
When I change my email at ebay will bidders be able to search sellers and find me under either name?
Please this (non-forwarding) email stuff is a pain in my butt! If you think I left someone off my list, please tell me because I am sure I have.
To make matters worst I will be gone from the 10th - 20th when the old email ends.

richierich: You're situation sounds so similar to mine it's spooky (ICC?). Does your old ISP have any way to set up an email redirect? You might call their tech support and see if this can be done, might work at least until 8/20, maybe longer. Then you could go ahead and install the new software.
I know this is getting to be a big problem for a lot of people, as the current internet "transition" evolves. Anyone who has considered purchasing their own domain and hasn't already done so should. At least if your hosting service goes Chapter 7, you are free to relocate. In the worst case your email might be down for awhile, but the address won't change.
And then there are all those AOL users. I used to laff, laff, laff at them but they certainly haven't had to deal with crap like this.

I switched to using Yahoo for receiving much of my email. They still haven't fixed their sending email from an email client in many months, but they are reasonably ok otherwise.
I recommend that both buyers and sellers have at least two or three accounts just to make sure you can communicate when stuff like this happens. I am thinking of having a secondary ISP account, but I haven't decided on that yet.

Unfortunately, they are not doing a redirect on email at all.
Since we need DSL service we were very limited to who would service us in the first place. I do not under stand these one way contacts. You know you "guarantee" so many years of service, but they up and quit when they want to!
Fortunately, when we did sign up, we got a great deal. NO install fees, 3 months free, and only $49.95 a month for DSL service here that was great.
I wonder what the new cost will be. At least the new install is free, I know that much.
