Hi - I have to ship a large package out tomorrow and am having trouble understanding the USPS website rules on this. Specifically I'm not sure how to measure to see if it is a large pkg or an oversized one. The box measures 40" high and 30" across on each side. Do I measure around the whole box -120"- plus add the height?
Help!!!

Edited because a smiley face snuck in somehow!!

That package is 160 inches. Measure length (longest side) + girth (all the way around the box)

That box is too big to send USPS or UPS.

You might want to check greyhound, they will take a monster size box.

some ups offices have a service available thru a seperate company for pkgs larger than the 130" they accept. i forgot the name, i tried to use it but of course there was not an office in my area according to ups

Thanks for the help - I'm going to try cutting down the box as much as I can to try squeezing it through with Parcel post. If that doesn't work I'll give Greyhound a call.
I tried calling around to some shipping places but everything is closed today and the only quote I could get off the web is $156., that's more than the item cost.

Best absolutely without a doubt is FEDEX GROUND. They took over the old RPS and are really cheap for the larger stuff. I shipped five full size (within 1" of the total allowable dims) chairs for less than $10 a chair to zone 8 from zone 1. Pack it well as it will be mixed in with heavy stuff.

Well, I checked out Greyhound, and the price is definitely right, but I don't know if my customer will be willing to pick it up at the station.

It's too big for Fed Ex Ground, and I don't think I can cut down the box enough for parcel post. My customer needs it by the end of the week and doesn't want to pay more than $55.00 shipping.

Any other ideas??

I called Greyhound this morning and found out that for an extra $12.00 they'll deliver the pkg right to my customers door, so she doesn't have to pick it up. I shipped it this afternoon and she should receive it by wednesday.
Even with the extra $12.00 it Greyhound was still cheaper than parcel post oversize and quicker.
I will definitely keep them in mind the next time I have a extra large pkg to ship out!
