It's the summer doldrums and I am thinking about marketing...

One of the things I am curious about is how you all use the counters on your auctions.

Do you use them to find what's hot, or to finetune things that get lots of hits and no bids? Do you have a 'normal' number of hits on items for each auction?

I know I check the AW pages so I can see my counters on each auction and see what's happening, but I have never been able to figure out more valuable ways to exploit what is potentially good information.

Any ideas/suggestions/experiences?

In reality, what an auction counter tells you is 2 things:

1. How much interest is there in the item. (some of the interest may simply be the curious looking at your auction)

2. Is your 45 letter title geting people to look at your auction.

The "real" counter is the # of bids.

what microbes said

i find it useful to gauge if i should bother to relist or not. and if it's something that got a lot of hits but no bids, perhaps changing the title to more accurately describe the item. or reshoot and relist with better/different photos.

i also think it's just fun sometimes to check and see which listings are getting the most hits.
