I have to buy OCR software for scanning office forms with mutiple columns. Any good recommendations? I need to be able to scan to excel or word preferably. Thanks in advance. (I posted this in the roundtable column weeks ago and got one response so don't kick me out of the ebay please)

There's a new version out now, 11, and it actually lives up to its promise to recognize documents better than before. It's made by Caere if you want to visit their Web site for details.

well I was hoping to get it off Ebay of course and the 11 is going a little higher than I want to pay to just scan some forms for his work <g> but they have 8.0 & 10.0. Anybody use either of those? I noticed when I was researching that the problem is in not recognizing pictures and/or columns.

I've used them all. Omnipage says it will do "true page" but in reality it does not. In terms of accuracy all of these programs work wonderfully in converting text. Omnipage will re-create your columns, but you will not get a page that is exactly like what you started with. It will "flow" the text. For example if the original was:
When in the
course of
human
events,
Omnipage will give you:
When in the course
of human events,
Just as accurate and with the ability to convert your text w/o flowing it. (ie makes a hard return after every line if desired), is ReadIris Pro. It is cheaper also. I think you can download a trial version.
The other thing about Omnipage 11 is it does not work well with many scanners with ADF. My HP6350 works but Scansoft has been unable to get my Visioneer 8650 to scan properly. I assume if you're using this with company forms you're using an ADF.
