Hi, all you smart people!

I'm trying to print postage on shipping labels, and I'm so stuck.

Endicia said that the address has to be on the same label as the postage. Is that true? I've searched the site here and it seems that many of you have figured out a way to print on 2 or more labels, i.e., the postage on one, the address on another, the return address on another.

If I could do that, I'd be okay, I could get busy right away.

Another question (I hope it's not too stupid!) I have heretofore been printing my addresses on plain paper, cutting them out & then affixing them to the packages with clear tape to prevent any water damage to the addresses. Could this be done with postage as well? If it could, I could really go to town, because I could format postage, dc & both addresses easily on a regular sized piece of paper to be taped to the package. Is there a law or rule that says you have to use sticky labels? They don't "cancel" this kind of postage, so as long as it scans okay, what difference would it make?

I did call my PO about that last question, and my favorite clerk said "I dunno, I guess it'd be okay..."

Please, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

What size labels are you using and what are you trying to fit in?

If you're using the Avery or equiv. 5164 size, avaloncourt has the link to some good templates and instructions for use on this thread:

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=405642

If you're trying to use the 5163 2x4 labels, they won't work. Endicia's postage imprint is too tall.

Yes it depends on what size label you are trying to print on you can print single and two peice but depend on the label you print on which is allowed

Use avery 2" by 4" labels 10 to a sheet you can print shipping and return address on one and Postage on the other.

Also keep in mind depending on what method of shipping and type of package also determins the label you can use..

gamecock: Thanks for mentioning the templates. Here's the url to the other thread in a "clickable" form:

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=405642

If you just want to go to the templates you can go to:

http://www.fellowpages.com/endicia/

dman: Your approach does utilize the 2x4 labels but doing it that way does not allow for any Delivery Confirmation printing.

The indicia and the address technically don't have to be on the same label/piece of paper. But, the address is embedded in the barcode, so the two are supposed to be used together.

As for printing it on plain paper and taping, the official post office answer is: no, you cannot do that, as you could razorblade around the postage and use it again. Any postage item, endicia or otherwise, is to be permanently affixed to the package.

The unofficial answer is that many people have done and continue to do this, and nothing bad happened so far. My response to this is, it only take one post office worker with a chip on his shoulder, and all your packages get bounced and you get a NEG.

I think the Low cost way around useing Endicia is to use the full sheet label to print every thing out on it and then cut the unused part of the sheet off.

this way you can get all there fetures on one label with no trouble at all.

if you compare the cost of the full sheet labels I dont think the cost would be all that much..

The problem with that approach is that you have to cut the full sheet to utilize the label after printing. The templates above allow you to use 3 1/3 x 4 labels in a full sheet manner and there's no cutting involved. For a large shipper like myself it would be extremely time consuming to be cutting up labels.

I set that template up because I had a bunch of the required 3.3" x 4" labels that Clickstamp used and didn't want to have to waste any. When I looked at how the Delivery Confirmation and postage spacing had to be printed I set up those full sheet layouts to use up the rest of my labels and have stuck with it ever since.

I buy labels from an ebay seller at 3000 labels per sale. They're nice labels and work quite well with my printer which is saying something for the tempramental HP laser feed system.

3 labels on one sheet by gflabels.com is about the size of the old priority label. Should work and no cutting involved.

I managed to get it all (indicia, return address, main address, bar code and delivery confirmation) on the Aug 2000 priority labels available free at the Post Office (at least temporarily - I hear a new format is coming out). The trick is to turn the label sideways and down the middle. The 'from' and 'to' sort of peek out at the very bottom near the DC but it does not interfere with scanning. I took the first few to the Post Office just to see if they would complain and they had no problem.
