On your opinions do auctions finishing on the weekend get better results?
If so what kind 3day, 5day, etc?

Im trying two right now,
one finishes tommorrow the other one on monday. They are two digital cameras.

Also are there any ending times that work best?
10pm? 11pm? 12pm?

Weekends were terrible for me in the summer! too many people outdoors and not wanting to come to play.

I just think like retail stores,
they post all their specials in the sunday
paper(and holidays).

I think they know a thing or two about selling.

Now how this translates into more ebay bids,
Im still waiting to find out

Personally, I find Thursday through Sunday to be the best, leaning mostly towards Sunday. I can't seem to get myself entirely organized enough to have ALL my auctions start/stop on Sundays though. Creates Havoc for my lifestyle! But, I run about 100/week and spread them out over those days, concentrating on Sundays. Thursdays are great too, I think it is 'cause a lot of people get paid or anticipate paycheck on Friday, so they spend!

Good luck!
A.

I used to end all my auctions on Sunday nights until Ebay got into the habit of crashing every Sunday evening so people couldn't search, sometimes couldn't bid etc. Now I end them on mondays and tuesdays and have not noticed any big difference in prices or number of bids.

Generally run 5 day unless it's a major item, then I'll spring for 10 days.

Fri doesn't do well for me, not a clue why. Sat evening and Sunday afternoon or very late (before and after all the ebay crashes) do well for my items. And for some odd reason, Thursday is good.

But, I think it's best for you to think of when YOUR potential customers might be on and it's not the same for everyone. So my timeframes might not reach your customer base.

I used to run strictly 10 day Thursday -> Sunday auctions. Now I run 7 days and lag a day starting new auctions. I have not noticed any difference in sales.

But, I also do not seem to be experiencing the "summer slump" that many others are posting about, so my results may be atypical.

How about times?

Do you get better results at certain times?

I have always (all 2+ years) had my auctions end between 19:00 and 20:00 eBay time. So I can't comment on time trends.

Here's a different approach.

I've always had the best success ending auctions at times when less auctions are ending. There's less competition and you get more page views in the last few minutes. I attempt to stay away from the prime saturation marketing.

I threw a bunch of items onto eBay last night, so I suspect some may never get bids. However one's already sold and there's no reason why the rest should do badly. I use Buy It Now all the time and it helps a lot.

Interestingly I get a lot of buyers on Half during the weekend, so I know they are out there.

Totally confused by my results! Last Sunday two lots went to Costa Rica, three to USA and one to UK. This Sunday, one to USA and six to UK! I guess there is no reply to your question, but my advice is to sell Internationally.

First of all, let me say that judging the best auction times is an imperfect
science, so take this with the grain of salt with which it's intended.

We've used polls, interviews with auction sites and empirical observation to make up the calendar. Both eBay and Yahoo auctions
have told us that traffic is heaviest to their sites on weekend evenings,
and Yahoo! gave us this hourly traffic chart (over a year old now) http://www.auctionbytes.com/Write_For_Us/Privacy/Yahoo_chart/yahoobids.gif.

We've also asked this questions in polls twice now, once in December of 1999
and a second time in February of this year. Here are the results from each poll with over 1000 respondents:

12/99________________2/01
Sun - 41%___________Sun - 54%
Sat - 18%___________Mon - 18%
Mon - 15%___________Sat - 11%
Fri - 11%___________Thu - 8%
Tue - 6%____________Wed - 5%
Thu - 5%____________Fri - 3%
Wed - 4%____________Tue - 1%

I like to run 10 day auctions starting on Thursday and ending on Sunday....I also like to overlap auctions starting Sunday to Sunday. that way I save a little money on the listing fee, and get some traffic from my auctions which have started on Thursday. But again...everyone has their own system.

vidpro2 I agree with your strategy. My choice lots run for 10 days Thursday to Sunday. My rubbish lots run Sunday to Sunday. I know there is cross bidding.

For a about a year and a half I always ended on Sunday afternoon and evening. Both summers crashed for me, but fall, winter and spring were fantastic.
At the beginning of this summer i noticed all my bids came in on weekday evenings. So I got out of ending on sunday for the summer, with Wed and Thurs being the best ending, at about 5:30 west coast time. I started getting last minute bidding wars again. Since I did that, I had a great summer this year....just as good as fall and winter. However, it seemed to crumble away since about July 4th to 10th or so.
i usually sell rocks or gold or other such things.

So my advice would be to keep an open mind and don't be afraid to experiment. Also be mindfull of where your customers are. For example I just sold about 3/4 of a ton of obsidian by the piece. I'm on the west coast where obsidian is abundant. Naturally, most of my buyers are east coast or Middle america, so ending my auctions at 5:30 west coast seemed to work out for obvious reasons.

But the real answer is....who the @%$^& really knows!

I mainly use the BIN and make sure that I run them through a weekend. When I was doing auctions I did try ending on Monday and it seemed to be just as good as Sunday. But I do items that men want and Monday nite is not a good nite to end auctions because of the up coming football season. The reason I am doing mostly BIN's is because of the sniping. I do not like that option and I do not use it, but thats another thread.

Weekends have always been the best day for me. Sunday nights are when people are home and looking for bargains. However, to get a Sunday listing you have to time it carefully. Also, since eBay is a global marketplace, I think that the day is becoming less and less important. WHat do you think?
