...........have started to come up on my screen, not only when I log-on but now after about 5 minutes or so surfing the topics.

Not only do I get the half.com ads but some for a crap-shoot [aka, casino].

I would like to hear from 1 person, just one who has actually clicked thru on one of these and then bought something.

The only satifaction I am getting is that these places will be running out of $$ to pay their bills and AW will get rid of them soon. Geez, they suck, are intrusive and annoying.

edited for typos & to re-rail my train of thought!

What does AOL have to do with pop-up ads from half.com and casino's on AW ?

Just curious as to what the connection is.

download ad-aware and you will see the pop ups attach a bug to your system to follow your surfing habits. the bug will be called double click.

When I first complained about the pop-ups another AW member advised me to download Pop-up killer from http://www.panicware.com/(Thanks Skeetypete)

I did, and it's working beautifully.
You can also configure this neat little program to play the sound of your choice each time a pop-up is killed.

I've set mine to play a .wav file from Monty Python. "Always look on the bright side of life".

It amuses me immensely each time I hear it.

You are my new hero. I am on bended knees and very thankful. We get enuf interuptions at work (the boss thing) and at home(those kid things). The last thing I need is commercials while I am trying to relax. I have asked several people if they have actually clicked to play or read those annoying messages. Guess what- they all said NO!!!!!!!

Great idea for a post and super idea to get rid of them!

Auctionwatch -- perhaps you could explain why you are sponsoring casino ads?

It's pathetic really. I can't see how you are gaining anything by this invasion of our browser space. I have NEVER and will NEVER click on any pop-up. They get deleted immediately.

I use KILLAD which can be found here:

http://www.magictrust.com/fsc/

This tiny prog. is only 42k, DL's takes literally 30 seconds and it is very effective.

The homepage is sort of a testing ground as it gives 5 consecutive popups. If you go there don't be angry, those are the last popups you will ever see. DL, open prog., refresh that page and watch and hear the popups disappear

Hello

I usually ask this question each time that I see that the Moderators are too busy with their duties to read all the threads.

What does ... this ... have to do with "The Ebay Outlook"?

Other than pumping the # of threads I cannot see that it does.

I just got THREE ads.
Folks get real!
I close all the windows and I don't use half.com or a casino.
This really does bite into enjoying this board.

MR.P ..... LOL, nice catch.

BTW - I just got the %@*!% casino.com pop up & damn near freaked at what it did with my Netscape browser.

Bad AW, VERY bad AW...............

potatohead - yes you are right. I [obviously] did post that.

As AW does not seem to care [judging by their actions, or inactions] I figured to join the bandwagon and say whatever the hell I feel like saying when I feel like saying it and posting it where I feel like.

Am I not allowed to change my mind?

Edit: Oh yes.......my spam quotient went into double digits today....and usually that is about the # we accumulate after about 3 days. so....I am sure that there is no connection with that, the spyware, and the increase.

As far as I know, you're allowed to change your mind as often as you might wish. Absent your last post, however, there was no way to know that was your intent.

Carry on.

To those who downloaded Panicware...

I never download anything without help because I am afraid it will get too technical for me.

Is Panicware very involved for the technically impaired?

(femme): its very simple to download and takes very little time. the instructions walk you right through it.
(mrpotatoheadd): as far as why this issue is posted here? because you get pop ups when you come here...what better forum than the place it happens?

Its absolutely amazing that there are people who actually think they can manipulate people into buying things by ANNOYING them!!! An irritated person simply does not fork over cash. Period. End of story!

My husband found out that if you use adsubtract and you use Norton Antivirus software there will be a conflict. Adsubtract will prevent Norton from being able to get the latest virus definitions. This is for the automatic updates and also for doing the update manually. I'd rather deal with popups than be left vulnerable to the latest computer virus. My husband feels the same way and got rid of adsubtract in order to have the latest virus protection updates.

I agree, and anyone else who agrees and who still uses eBay is a hypocrite

I hate them too... but I understand why they're necessary for AW. I'm sure they generate a good revenue stream, and seeing as how AW just laid off a bunch of folks, they must be hurting for revenue right now. I think the fact that they're hosting casino ads is particularly telling about their financial situation.

Although the popups drive me absolutely batty, I'd rather have AW with popups than no AW at all, which is not outside the realm of possibility if they can't be profitable. Sucks, doesn't it?

Do you, or does anyone here, know anyone who has actually left one of these intrusions on the screen long enough to actually read it, let alone take the bait and actually buy something from one of these pop-up advertisers?

I cannot see how these things generate revenue for the advertisers, and like the real world, if paid ads don't generate sales, they don't last very long.

Anyone have any stats on the success/failure/future of these annoyances?
