I recently won an auction where the shipping charge was stated to be $3.95. I assumed (yes, I know, I know NOW) that amount was for Priority Mail shipping. The item was supposed to be shipped to me last Tuesday, (nine days ago) and as of today, I still have not received it. I just wrote the seller to inquire if my item had indeed been shipped, and she answered that it was sent last Tuesday, but via Parcel Post.

Obviously, I will ask next time what kind of shipping method is covered by the shipping charge....but my larger question is, is this type of wait normal for Parcel Post shipping? I haven't had much experience with it, and I am beginning to be a little concerend that something may have gone awry in transit. If it helps, the package was mailed in Kentucky and I live in Illinois. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

sounds like this item might have been sent media rate which could tak up to three weeks and more.

parcel post is pretty quick some time as fast as priority not alway but usually.

also might try to email the seller this item might have been lost in the shufle and still be sitting unmailed this have happened to me a few times...

Generally speaking, the closer you live to
the person sending the item, the sooner it
will arrive (via any method). This is not
always the case, but vast experience ;^)
tells me it is usually true. I've had
people send a Parcel Post package from the
same state I live in, or one right next to
it, arrive in a day or two. I've also had
"Priority Mail" (ie, first class at a higher
fee with a sticker) arrive 7 to 10 days
later. Of course, your mileage may vary...

Be sure to check with your Post Office to see if the package is sitting on a shelf somewhere. Always, always, always. As a seller, I've learned this lesson the hard way!

Yep, I agree that media mail and parcel post delivery times usually vary directly with distance.

However, I did once have a parcel post package sent with DC - so I knew it had gotten to the regional ditribution area (20 miles from me) in 3 days - but it wasn't delivered for another 2 weeks. I called over there and the postsmaster said: "Since it wasn't priority mail, we didn't give it priority. We get to those packages when we have time."

Figure 7-14 days. Large packages take a bit longer. As I have pointed out time and again, sellers need to use zip + 4 AND barcode if they want their packages to arrive in the right place in a timely fashion. Very few sellers do.

Just to throw a kink in the distance=speed theory. I'm in Georgia. Shipped two packages the same day. The one to California arrived in two days. The one to Florida took five. A lot hinges on the local post offices.
