I've been selling high priced($500 - $2000) items on eBay for a couple months now. I haven't had any problems but I'm still concerned about fraud.
I ship right away when I get a money order or certified check. But I'm wondering how wise this is. What do you think?

That's a good question. I'm assuming that if I waited for the money order to clear through the bank that I would then know that it's not fraudulent. That's something I should ask the bank.
Of course I don't want to make a buyer wait for a money order to clear.

I guess another alternative is to only accept PayPal and follow their Seller Protection guidelines(I can hear the howls of laughter already). But that sure doesn't leave me with a good feeling either.

I don't know where people get the idea that
a money order or cashier's check is the same
as cash! They are NOT! Don't believe me?
Try buying one and taking it to a local store
and asking to make a purchase with it. Good
luck! Check with your bank and find out how
long it takes for them to clear. Set your
TOS accordingly. I'd rather lose a sale or
two that way than my sanity for getting yet
another bad payment!
