I bought some Griswold pieces at an estate auction. The outsides are in good shape, but the interiors need help. I've seen Griswold listed both cleaned up and "as is". Any experts out there? Should I try to clean them, and if so, how?

Hi there, what kind of help on the inside do they need? Above all else, use nothing too harsh. A few years back a friend decided to sandblast her Grizzy. It was as clean as a whistle and worth hardy anything.
Cast Iron collectors expect some patina from use. It mellows the cast iron and gives it warmth. (Can you tell I love my cast iron?)
Another friend swears by taking his cast iron and putting it in a self cleaning oven. Beware--the smokey carcinogens wafting throughout the house!

If it were me, I'd take the time to clean the pans, especially since it's pretty simple.
First wash off any food residue, if any. Then, using a Scotch Brite pad and some vegetable oil, scrub the insides until the rust and gunk come off. Wipe dry with a paper towel and you're done.
