i have a dutch auction running, 5 items opening bid of $19.99......i get 1 bid for $55.00...about 5 hours after the bid i get this email from the bidder.

"i did not realize this item was a dutch auction please cancel my bid of $55.00"

..............i responded by asking why they had a problem with a dutch and gave a brief explanation fo how it worked....here is their response

"When I was ready to submit my bid, eBay showed my current bid at $55 rather than $19.99, thus the confusion that this was the result of it being a Dutch auction (of which I have bid successfully in the past). Now myeBay shows my current bid at 19.99.

What a headache. No item is worth this trouble. Please cancel my bid however it is currently appearing.

Thank you for your cooperation"

ok what the heck does that mean, read it 10 times still does not compute.....what trouble are they talking about..i see no trouble. the only thing i can see is they are trying to BS their way out of the bid. changing their mind is a minor pain but ok but i hate to be BS'd......i responded by saying i wqas still confused by their response please help me understand...............

what do ya'll think???

Just write back and ask them to retract their bid. Direct them to the site map and where to find it on there.

Some folks are just lazy, others are ignorant.

Yes, I agree with directing them to retract their bid; I had a bidder recently that bid.. then 4 days later emailed me to cancel their bid; they 'didn't mean to bid on it'. (that's another issue.. how can you NOT mean to bid on something when you have to jump thru all those hoops to place a bid!?!) I emailed back stating fine, no problem, they needed to go ahead and retract their bid. I didn't give the guy enough info, I spose.. because he won. I think well, ok, he musta changed his mind AGAIN and decided not to retract.. so I send an EOA notice. 2 days later.. 'didnt you get my email, i didn't mean to bid'.

AARGH!

Yes dude.. didn't you get mine? you needed to retract or you'd be responsible for the item.

I hate to play games with bidders but sometimes it's just so much darn fun..

i interprets it to mean that when they submit the bid and it showed at 55,they thought they were going to pay 55 for the item.
since it is a dutch auction, the item is not rare ,so why pay 55 for it,even though later on my ebay it shows 19.99,it is just not worth the time and money to find out which amount is correct 55 or 19.99.
these folks are in a hurry, they dont want to compicate their life by having to deal with 55 or 19.99 at end of auction.
their time is too valuable .
or put it in another way, since there are more than one copy available, they lost interest,in a man and woman relationship, man like the chase ,once it is over, they tend to lose interest.

I think many people do not understand dutch auctions, or maybe in this case she forgot that dutch auctions don't do proxy bidding.

It sounds like she's not going to pay in any case, so just cancel the bid and get on with life. If you start to overanalyze and argue, then you just get yourself worked into a fret and waste time.
