As usual, I take a much needed break from Ebay around June and don't return until about September. I don't know if it's because people are home for the summer or if the heat goes to thier heads, but I got so tired of dealing with rude, disrespectful, MEAN and just plain ugly buyers that I had to just walk away and "chill out". I also noticed that in the 3 years that I've been "Ebay'in" that sales drop drastically in the summer months for obvious reasons. Has anybody noticed them picking up yet? I am itchin' to start listin' and I want to know that there's a light at the end of the "Summer's here and nobody's bidding but the nasties" tunnel.

Thanks!

DONT HOLD YOUR BREATH!!
this slow sales business is not about summer blues,it is about jobs, jobs, and lack of jobs with folks who are trigger happy bidding away in ebayland, who do you think were our best customers?those yuppies whuppies who work for dot coms, cisco, sun, dell, hewitt packard, compaq etc, they have turned into our competitors by selling back the stuff they bidded in the past.
oh,another things, someone wishfully wish the retirees will go away, well sorry to bust the balloon, our saving rate is so low, oldies need to raise some cash to pay prescription drug and grocery.
what do they have?all kinds of goodies up to their gazoo-my 68 years neighbor will soon be listing her 1936 shirley temple doll with original shoes, socks, undies, bonnet, coat dress ,the whole work.
what else, her african ebony raw good, her father's immortal figurine, her aunt ivory cigarette holder, her mother's this and that and this and more that.
boy,i am so jealous no one ever bot me a shirley temple doll!!

My sales have really taken off in the past week or so. I'm getting multiple bids on just about everything and the prices are much better than they were just a few weeks ago on most items. The one exception has been clothes, my clothing sales are still kinda slow.

Good Luck!

Mine have picked up pretty fast. Even the store sales are up (hell must have frozen over when I wasn't looking).

I haven't been listing but I have been buying things real low so at least in the area I buy it's not a good time to be a seller.
I agree with hwah...hwah We have normal dog days of summer but the collectible market will not be back the way it was

Back in the 80's we used to fondly talk about the flea market days pre-Reagon I think we will all be talking on these boards in the next few years about the good old days Pre-W.

spock here......

To be honest bidding never really slowed down I have listed right through the summer and I had about 17 bad days where there was no bidding of some kind happening for me over the past few months.

My sales are about the same most of the year until around Christmas when its a feeding frenzy. This past week most of my items sold for the opening bid of $31. and several just took off and I had one of my highest number of bids in two years on one item.

My better half just got layed off yesterday, and boy was it a shook, no warning and 50 high tech engineers and manufacturing engineers got walking papers and one hour to pack up. Two weeks severence and one month health insurance. This economy is in big trouble for the middleclass. Let's hope Ebay can support us for awhile.

I work in manufacturing plastic packageing this is one of the first to notice when the Economy is on the rise.

The slow down for us started last may, as of this month thing are on the Rise the company is in a mad rush to hire loads of new help and scrambleing to get geared back up in full swing.

back to pushing help for 16 to 30 hours in over time hours again.

The company makes packageing for hair care, automotive, technology, food and industy.

Orders for custom plastic packageing New and existing is on the rise.

When packageing bussiness starts to rise other industry usually fallows not far behind.

Dman3.... Thanks for a great evening, I spent an hour listening to your launch cast. Your web site is a treasure and light years ahead of most site.... Thanks....

And thanks for the positive view of the economy. This weekend we still have rapid heart beats and moments of serious "panic" which hopes wears off by next week.

Your music selection cheered me up.. Lots of fun ....

eBay is still a bit slow. Usually have much more bidding going on--it'll pick up after Labor Day. I have done very well on Half--two best sales periods ever back to back. I am looking to do more on Half and less on eBay, something I never thought possible when I started.

Thanks for all of the responses... it sounds half way promising to start up again. I was optimistic until I read the post about clothing not selling well.... as I sell upper-end children's clothing.
I guess I will just take a chance and hope for the good old bidders that I dealt with a couple of years ago to come back and bid again. I can't tell you how tired I am of dealing with either "newbies with an attitude" or with high bidders that end up "changing thier minds" after the sale. What's up with that??!!!??? I never ran into that problem before. This isn't K-Mart where you can put stuff back when you change your mind. We sellers are mothers trying to make ends meet, older people trying to make money for medical bills and prescriptions and new businesses trying to get a start. We can't afford to play the games of the New Breed of Bidders that have found their way in to Ebay. What a sad change it's been.... I long for the way it was about 4 years ago.

Things have picked up for me - sold some sewing supplies for $16.50 and had 3 out of 4 auctions close last night (all by 1 bidder) - still would like more traffic, but hopefully the Harry Potter cards going up this week will bring in some good $.

I think the "slowdown" in the economy is a bit overhyped. There are specific industries that are slowing down, and others that are still picking up.

A lot of the numbers you hear about unemployment are the result of the dot bomb industry falling apart. For a while, these workers would just jump from one dot bomb to another, and not tax the unemployment lines. Now they are finding that there is no dot bomb to go to.

But as the news reports, the real world soon follows. Maybe if they reported that the economy was doing great, then it would really pick up. But that wouldn't make for an interesting newscast......

It wouldn't make interesting newscast and it would make Bush look too good. Media cannot let that happen (even though it's true -- W. is a great President so far!).

actually, I've heard a number of encouraging reports on the economy via the "liberal press" who "can't make bush look good"...so I guess there goes *that* media conspiracy theory.

snort laugh.

peiklk are the once and former dubyasdaman?

I know OOOT but curious.

My sales have been fine, tightening the reins and collecting the sales into controlled approach.
But I haven't noticed a price drop. Good description, pix and knowing the condition of the widget is the only way to play fair.

Aficionados are aficionados, besides they tend to be Doctors, Lawyers and such.

Niche baby niche!!
