Has anybody had a theft or fire or other loss, and been able to use the printed copy of the Ebay Final Sale as proof for insurance purposes? It seems to me that this would suffice, especially if the ad contained a photo. Thanks.

i had a break in and lost a net purchased item and was able to use the electronic email reciept i had but it was not an auction item...
i tried it on a ups claim(for an auction item) over $100 and got a bunch of BS from ups. they did not want to pay the high bid because the item was not worth that in their opinion. well guess what auction values are determined by the final bid not fair market value etc...they told me i had to get a reciept form where i bought it and turn that in for a claim. well heck i got the item for free, so i went to a friends antique/junk store and got him to write me an invoice for the final bid price.........was a tremendous hassle, many phone calls etc but i finally got my $$$$ and refunded the customer

The one time I had an insured USPS loss, I used the eBay auction page a part of the proof of cost and had no problem collecting. It was very easy...but then the item was broken, not lost, and I brought the entire package to the P.O. with me.

Problem you might run into is if you never disclosed the fact that you were running this bussiness from your home to begin with.
any ebay goods lost in your home would be concidered inventory and even if they did manage to over look you didn't insure your home bussiness they would pay you the value of the inventory if you can prove what you purchased it for.

Thanks for all the responses. But what I'm mainly asking is if you have a theft, flood, or other loss in your HOME (not a loss in mail), will HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE accept a copy of the Ebay transaction as PROOF OF VALUE for the item? Thanks again.

belalug: is this item something you purchased from an eBay seller? If so, then the eBay page is evidence of what you paid.
Or, is this an item that you sold but it was destroyed prior to shipping? Then, you'll have to check to see if your homeowner's insurance covers loss of inventory.
Either way, check with your insurance company or agent. Without seeing the policy, we can only speculate here.

I had UPS lose a $300+ video game. To anyone that would seem like a ridiculous price for a game BUT UPS paid me in full - and they even printed the end of auction page for me as proof of value!
