Brief history:

Some time ago had person bidding on several auctions. Midway through them, his bids were administratively cancelled (his ID got NARU'd).

He popped up at the end of my auctions and sniped them again w/a new ID (yep, AOL strikes again).

Okay, sometimes people get themselves into situations & start over. Sent him EOA, he responded, then never responded again. I filed NPB, FVF & so did many others so his second ID was NARU.

Today, I'm checking on my auctions & spot a name that looks familiar. I check & he's baaccckkk (though this time he's not using AOL..wonder if they kicked him off?).

I've blocked the new ID from bidding on any more of my pending auctions but haven't cancelled this one. YET. I want to wait until it's closer to the end of the auction before I cancel so he doesn't try to come in w/another ID and bid.

I've emailed ebay about this ID but doubtful they'll get around to it before the auctions end.

My problem..what do I say is the reason for my cancelling his bid? I've love to be truthful & saying something like, "never paid me under his OLD ID) but that will probably insure he follows my auctions even more.

Looks like I'm stuck trying to keep up w/this bozo's ever changing ebay IDs until he tires of this game. Appears he likes to bid on similar items to this so looks like I'm stuck doing private auctions on these in the future to keep this bozo from ruining them for others. I can't spend my life trying to figure out all his different IDs.

Any help on what to use as a reason?? Or should I just cancel the entire auction?

Hello Eventer,

Depending on the $ amount, I would most likely cancel all the bids, and end the auction.
The last time I cancelled a bid near the very end [same situation as you - on a $300+ item] the dink slipped in with only seconds to spare & won the auction. [with yet another ID] I'm sure you can guess on how much of the money I saw?

kiawok,

You're right (so what else is new?).

It will be better than risking a return of the deadbeat bidder under yet another ID!

Looks like I'm going to have to go to a "pre-approved" bidder list in the future for this item. Has anyone used it? Pros? Cons?

Bummer!

That's one Ebay move (among many others) I have yet to understand: Pre-approve a bidder! How in the world can we PRE-approve someone we have never delt with before (which applies to the majority of bids we receive) It would have been so much easier to create a block bidder tool!..., which would be based on PAST BAD EXPERIENCES....

Maybe I am missing something here......Help, kiawok...

Hi Shosh! eBay DOES have a "blocked bidder" tool. I'm up to 20+ ID's on my list.

Good luck Eventer! I've yet to use the pre-approved bidder tool, but one could always have the potential bidders email & ask permission to go on the list. I kinda doubt it would go over very well? Let us know if you use it, and what the results are compared to your auctions without.

shosh,

Uh, we HAVE bidder block!

I've seen some auctions where a seller uses the "pre-approved" approach and asks any bidder interested in bidding to contact them first.

Bill,

Bad boy!

eventer Bummer! Hope you can block this latest USER name! I had one of those 3 years ago: she got new USER ID's as fast as she could: 3 in the same day! Was NARU each time, but I know for certain she is still operating!....I guess where there is a will, there is a way....

BTW... anyone: (a little off-topic, sorry!)....
What does one do when an auction ended 5 days ago, and the buyer has not yet responded to EOA and mailing address info I have sent??? Should I chuck it to a bad experience? In my listings, I DO request they confirm receipt of my Email/EOA notices to make sure Email Programs are working... I even used the "Send this auction to a friend" feature...to no avail...I already KNOW with certainty (gut feeling), that is is a "stiff"...

Thanks for a little light, anyone...

Shosh

I usually pull the contact info, then wait another 24 hrs, then phone if need be. Sometimes just pulling their contact info will rattle their cage.

I remember the heated debate when Ebay first proposed the Pre-Approve thingy...Hundreds, THOUSANDS of use told them to make a "Block List" instead....duhhhhhhh! I guess for once, they listened..

Thanks everyone...Will go an bookmark it...

okay, i've got to ask. especially since i think i've got a similar situation. how do you know when it's the same bidder with a new id? i've 'got a feeling,' but it sounds to me like you guys have some way of telling when this is happening. what do you know that i don't?

I also had a seller I know contact me with all his AOL bogus ID's. He had plenty of them!

kittyx3,

In my case, I didn't even have to resort to stalking.

The first time around his ID was (this is STRICTLY AN EXAMPLE..NOT HIS AUCTUAL EBAY ID): [email protected]

When it was NARU'd, then he came back with [email protected]

He did respond to my EOA w/his name & address: Jack Sprat (again, NOT what he actually said..just an example).

Well, his current email using his latest ebay incarnation is jack.sprat@xyzisp

If he hadn't used his name in his email address, I wouldn't have caught it.

shosh,

You've nailed the problem. We can block their previous and latest reincarnations but when they've got access to creating a million ones, we'll never keep up. ebay will only NARU AFTER the fact, they don't have any procedures in place to catch them when they register.

shosh,

Forgot to add this. Try also contacting them through another ISP (from work, through a friend, using a freebie one). Sometimes it's a matter of ISP's not talking.

eventer...Good point...Thanks. He/She uses MSN, which I would assume is compatible with everyone's servers..last month's and this week's bidders all responded...so my program appears to be talking to many different areas.

I guess I will create one of the free Email accounts...Hate to! I forget I have them...tried it before and never used them...

Thanks...

Can you pull info on each of the IDs and see if 'dummy' was 'dumb' enough to give his correct name & info on all the Ebay IDs? I don't know if you can request that info on NARU'd bidders or not, but it's worth a try and if he is indeed the same guy, report him!

PS I had a weird bidder like this before too; bid on the same two items under three diff IDs with an int'l ending on their email.. that's how I figured him out. Kept winning and not paying.. he also kept getting NARU'd. I'm a dunce, I forgot what we did about; it was a looong time ago.. sorry.. DER!
