I'm just sitting here pondering WHAT IF:

We met our demise?

Do you have a back-up plan?

Do you have a floppy in the safe giving detailed instructions about your eBay business?

AND.....do you give detailed instructions that your INVENTORY IS NOT garage sale STUFF?

I've often thought I need to do something in writing to make my family AWARE of the situation I'm in EXACTLY.

My family could give a flyin rip what I do, as long as I can hand over the doe.....

SO.....whats the take? How do you want your INVENTORY disposed of?

Hi Packer, interesting question. My answer is I really don't care. My DH would probably just pour gas on the shed and set it on fire, AFTER he took out the power washer and his fishing poles of course. As long as my cats and dogs are taken care of, I don't care if they bury all of my quality pre-owned pre-loved treasures with me. Just my opinion. Barbara

Packer, if you have the kind of stuff that isn't obviously worth a bundle, of course you do.

Thats why so many are able to go the the yard sales and get the little treasures!

Me, all I really have to worry with is who gets the bills.

I think my hubby could probably handle things, even though it would get messy. My inventory consists only of a few shelves of books in the basement at this time.

But the question strikes a nerve because I wonder if I should do more to encourage my hubby to get on board with this in some way. On a recent vacation he showed up with a box of books he scrounged at a local library sale! All perfectly worthless, but it was the thought that counted!

My family wouldn't care what instructions I gave them. My stuff would all be heading to the dump. They can't stand it. In fact my father came by today to drop something off and told me that if he won lots of money he would buy all my junk and then throw it away! Well at least my bidders like my things!

This is the reason why one needs to name someone to handle the estate, preferably someone who would know the value of such things and handle it properly to make sure the bills are paid (and things don't get tossed/gave away for nothing.)

It happened to me (not my demise). I became severely ill and had to be hospitalized for almost 3 weeks. I had auctions running and if it wasn't for my oldest (who has my password), the auctions wouldn't have been honored because no one else knows how to do those things.

I suppose if I died, everything would become trash.

I have taught my mother, brother, sister, and father to sell. They could divide it up if they wanted.

My kids go to my Mom. Thats the only really valuable thing I have.

This is funny, because just the other day my husband and I were discussing who our executor would be. He got a strange look on his face and said he wouldn't know what to do with my collection of 90 (and growing) wallpockets I have on the walls, in drawers, staring at me right now, etc. It hadn't occurred to me to worry about that, but I sort of clued him in.

I don't sell enough on eBay for this to be a serious problem; he'd probably just give away stuff until it was nearly gone, then donate it to the thrift shop.

Maybe we should all have a separate eBay executor to dispose of all our little collectibles that our better half doesn't know anything about. Maybe someone could go into that line of work!

After my post here, my DH came home from a hard days work and I layed all this on him.

I told him it would NOT be acceptable to dispose of my stuff through a garage sale. I'm an advid collector of STAR TREK & NANCY DREW(I know ...your saying what a combination) I collect many other things as well. I recently discovered that my YEARS of collecting Siamese Cat figurines could pay off BIG TIME.

Anyway.......He(DH) says I sould take a notebook and write down all my passwords to all the sites I use for my business.

I think I have convinced him that my STUFF is mearly more then JUNK!!

It's informal, but yes. My live-in knows where to find my eBay password (not on my computer). He also helps with shipping, so he knows my file system. And he has access to my email.

I have a short but sweet will leaving my house to him and my mom, with the stipulation that they can do whatever they want as long as neither ends up with nothing or homeless. (It's worded more accurately, but that's the idea.)

As for my stocks and bonds... oops, I forgot to invest in those!

My hubby would just leave it sit except for the old baby stroller he keeps trying to throw out! My oldest son would get a huge trash monster to take it all away and then wonder why he's still poor. My middle son would has the brains to realize it's worth something and would figure out how to sell it on ebay, which would make him a third generation ebayer since my father sells too. My daughter will want everything for her own house when she grows up. She's a little pack rat like me. And my best friend would be taking lots of stuff because we have the same tastes!

My father knows all of my passwords and what my stuffs worth but he hunts and pecks when he types so it would take him forever to take care of business. I do all of his listing for him now. He's provides the shipping department, shipping supplies, camera, computer etc in return so I can sell.

It only makes sense to have a disaster recovery plan. My brother and daughter in law can manage the entire thing start to finish.

EVERYONE knows that they should call the best auctioneer in town to dispose of my inventory. It will take be a lot of work for them, but the return will justify it.

I have a huge inventory and it would probably take several sales to get rid of everything. In fact, I am having an auction soon to get rid of items that didn't sell on ebay. Can't wait to watch all the other sellers buy it all up. After all, there is just too much competition out there and we all need to do our part to reduce it!

Actually people need to have a plan for a lot of different issues. I haven't really worried about it, but it has been something I've given thought too.

What if

you can't handle current sales because you are

sick
the computer fries
the car breaks down
your stuff is stolen

and on and on....

if you are dead, it's not a problem really, but you do need some forethought in any event.

I am too small potatoes to fret over anything, but I think it makes sense to keep current with stuff and plan so someone can handle things smoothly. I've seen what happens when people leave the world in a messy fashion. At the very least have a decent will.
