lets see...
yahoo auctions pale in comparison to ebay in most every aspect and the most important one, traffic and sales. so why should anyone expect their stores to do any better. from what i see the stores are up to this point a failure on ebay, the site with all the traffic already. how can one expect more from yahoo??? from a seller point of view i see nothing rosey. but maybe i have mud in my eye

YOU MEAN EBAY STORE IS A FAILURE???
i have a shop on yahoo since may,2001.
when i open my shop,i was willing to lose money up to 6 months and decide to close after xmas if it does not pan out..
But it has been profitable since first month, every month i see more traffic and more sales, unlike ebay,i dont have to go around listing at a low price and beg anyone to bid on my items.
of course the traffic is not like ebay, but i get a respectable gross profit margin for all my items.
but yahoo is a place where folks shop for mostly new items for gifts giving-graduation,wedding,birthday,xmas etc.
old worn cracked chipped items would not do well.
log on to yahoo and see for yourself, there is more than meet the eyes, the backoffice support is quite good-create elctronic coupon, track your order, create bill of lading, order confirmation, lookup your credit card deposits, etc etc
also yahoo submits your shop to major search engines.
the new price structure is very enticing, see for yourself

Yahoo stores are already sucessfull and have been for a long time..
the cost of opening a yahoo store held many from useing there store not the lack of users or buyers.
These venues Ebay, yahoo, Amazon they all Know the next big trend in sales is in fixed price selling,Ebay resisted till last year when they started BIN priceing for there auctions that is becomeing excepted and sucessfull and the Fixed price stores will in time follow as soon as more and more of the seller get the Idea of how to use then to there advantage.
One advantage I see already is low cost to list Item not just single Items but dutch fixed price sales No $1 or .01 teaser prices or risk of loseing profit.
also Stores are or can be linked to auto payments through billpoint no waiting weeks for there inventory to turn into need dollars less chance of dead beats.
advantage to the buyers is that the lower costs and risks for seller can lead to better return and refund policies faster delivery times.

hmmmmm
sounds interesting but from an auction stand point, my only experience with yahoo, i don't see how it is possible.........the search engine thing sounds interesting but how soes that work exactly. seems to me if you want to be on the first page after a search you would have to generate mucho hits and whatever else it takes to bump your way up the search lists no to mention the way word search works versus what your store is called. example of my babbling.."joes card sports card shop" a search engine would be useless unless someone did a search for joes card shop. searching for a specific card or type of card would generate hundreds of hits or thousands, seem like ol joe would be buried..........but then again there may be more mud in my eye...................................who is willing to talk numbers, those who say they are doing well, tell us some figures and type of items you are selling.

as we speak,i received an order for a small limoge teapot ,shipping is predetermined in my shop acording to sale amount and come up to 7.95.
now, this is kind of high for a 2 1/2 inches teapot even with insurance,so i create a 5.00 coupon for his next purchase.
unlike my ebay bidder whom i believe is active on this board who went thru my ebay feedback file of over 3000 and emailed every current bidder ,past neutral and neg bidders with the intention of having me thrown out of ebay JUST BECAUSE SHE CANNOT RESOLVE 2.00 SHIPPING TO HER SATISFACTION (i offer 5.00 toward future shipping allowance),this type of behavior is like KKK society, trying to get someone lynched for what??2 dollars??
and ebay would not do much than a slap on the wrist!!
I did a search on 'digital camera' and received 432 very nicely ordered results. Cameras from featured stores came up 1st, but you can then narrow your search by price range, increasing/decreasing prices, etc. The whole store layout is nicely done! eBay should take a lesson!

when you create a shop on yahoo, one of the forms you complete will have the major search engines and there are about 8 of them which account for 95% of the traffic, you specify how you want yahoo to submit your shop to these search engines(google, yahoo, alta vista etc)-index,item page, front page of your shop.
there is one search engine which will just take your front page, the rest will take all if this is what you want.
now there is a website which discusses in details how these search engines operate.
anyway, every day you get reports which tell you cumulative todate where traffic is coming from such as ebay me page, aol classified, google search, yahoo japan etc etc.it also shows you click trails, individuals who come to your shop where they come from (last page they visited) and what they do in your shop-like what page they look at,what they put in the shopping basket etc
of course none of these translate to $$$ IF THEY DONT place an order.
like all things in life, there is competition on yahoo, the big boys like compaq, barnes and noble and prestigious musuem gift shops and some really upscale shops which sell lalique, waterford, armanti, lladro are there.
unlike other search engines, there is something unique about yahoo shopping,it is done by editors and they have many who manually decide who fit where,so results tend to be more accurate, say when you search for sports card, you are not going to end up with icecream cake which is shaped like football.
haveing these big shops can be an advantage and disadvantage, they draw more traffice and their professuonal photos and layout are very attractive but they could make a small shopowner layout look bad.
but like dman said,if pricing has been a constraint in the past, this new pricing is very good news to test the water especially we are approaching XMAS.

i fell asking questions and getting other opinions and experiences can help one make an informed decision before they spend the start up money...
hawhahwawhaw
you give some good info thanks....but lets be serious you wern't thrown off ebay over a simple shipping dispute and the $2 had nothing to do with the kkk's knot classes.

buggery,
i am not thrown out of ebay,i have been selling on ebay for over 5 years.
i also sell on amzn and like i said i open a shop on yahoo since may.
i dont believe there is a future in auction style selling,at least not for me .
ebay is good if you always have something rare, unuaual that no one else has,but i sell mostly new items .
