Can someone offer a primer on how to read the book copyright information to find out first printing, second printing, etc?

I know the date isn't all you go on and there are those series of 10 numbers at the bottom of the page that mean something.

Can someone spell this out?

Thanks!

Here's a nice site for this:

http://www.olg.com/books/firsted.htm

There are tons of links here too - all about how different publishers designate a first, reprint publishers, bce's, etc.

Good luck!

A great place always available-- go to Ebays book chat board. There, you will find a blue, red and yellow board. Those have links that will get you headed in the right direction.

Here's an easy test:
No matter what it says, if I own it,
it's not a first edition!!

Actually, capotasto, over 90% of all the books ever printed exist only in first editions because they never sold enough to justify a second.
