Well I have came back from summer break (from ebay that is) and during the summer I built my first website. All of my auctions launched Sunday night with a big ol' link to my site and it looks like no ones really picking up on it yet. I even have a really excellent free offer on my website this week and not a single soul has entered the drawing yet! Yes I am sounding very impatient or was I just to sure of myself before launching it? What I would like to know from others on here, is how well your site traffic and sales are via eBay that is. Thanks.....

It sounds like you're on thin ice in more ways than one.

Unless you've been exceptionally clever, you're highly likely to have run afoul of eBay's "two click rule", which in essence states that the first click from an eBay description must go to a page which primarily adds more information to the description of this item (but can have a link to your site which tries to sell something else, meaning you can get to your site in two clicks from the eBay page, but not one).

Secondarily, it seems you're trying to sell something no one is interested in.

wow ,what a way to greet someone back from summer (ebay summer).
traffic is way down anyway,so no one is clicking his way to your site.
another way is to add hyperlink to your email so bidder can click his way to your site when they receive email from you.
you can also add your website link in your me page,

Oh geez!!! I should have expected the usual gloom and doom responses! First of all I am selling a product people are VERY INTERESTED IN. Second of all eBay must not be to hard on this outside link policy because I know several sellers who have been doing the exact same thing for eons and have never had their auctions yanked. Is there no one with a positive outlook on this board? I am sure there is must not be tonight.......? LOL!

you had better look back through a few weeks worth of post here you will find hundreds of sellers with canceled auctions in the past few weeks for haveing website links since ebays new policy.

I have a very positive outlook but I also know that ebay has a new strict link policy..

eBay allows sellers to place the following types of links in your item's description:
1. One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing.

****Learn more****
Further explanation:

When linking to a page that further describes the item you are selling, that page may contain links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of eBay. This is permitted, provided the intent of the link is to further describe your item and the link conforms to the policy above.

From eBay's own rules pertaining to links...

In reality, eBay doesn't do a thing about the links until one of your competitors turns you in.

It's only a matter of time.

On the positive side, if no one rats on you, your linked listings won't get shut down! I still see sellers using links all the time.

As far as getting anyone to actually visit your site, that is very tough to do, even when you have your links everywhere.

HYPE:....

"Build it and they will come" ain't working like all the HYPE claimed it would...Is it..???

What surprises me is after 5 years + of the HYPE of "You need a website", etc, to make your millions, online "Newbies" still buy into the dream...

Of the millions of small ecommerce websites, very few make any "Serious" money...(I have doubts there are really millions)

And on the negative side, if anyone reports the link, it's quite likely that all mandalore's auctions will be pulled at once. Relisting without the link could be a major inconvenience. It also tends to shake the confidence of any bidders who had placed bids at the time that ebay pulls the auctions - the same bidders may shy away from your relisted auctions.

We were holding a measly 2 auctions a week on Ebay, when they pulled our auctions for having links to our web site. Now they watch us with an eagle eye. They just gave us 24 hours to change our About Me page to conform to "Ebay Law", this after we started our first auction in 3 months.

We didn't have a competitor turn us in, guess we were just on the wrong side of the odds.

I report all my competitors with web site links, and have got auctions closed as they did not listen to warnings from eBay.

I've been checking web sites for store fronts the past couples days-- 2 of the better ones that send your EOA notices bring the buyer to your store to pay, while offering them other merchandise of yours.

Sounds like a winner to me. Any chance of moving? Supposedly several programs out there that will help move you, I think one is named sitesucker (websucker?)

a million websites???
there were many websites out there at one time becasue they were free, all you have to do is display some banners.
those days are gone,bigstep.com was free, only charge shopping cart, then it is not.they lure you with free this ,free that, then comes the fee.
many websites are poorly designed, loust pictures and poor wordings, then seller becomes discouraged and dont man the shop and answer emails.
another problem is not enough stock and no new stock.
it is not easy, you cant stock shelf without selling something first, you cant have a wide selection until you find some good sources.
if you drop items to ebay for less, then your customers are weaned to wait for you to drop more .thats why many wont leave ebay, every day many new items come to ebay, prices get lower and lower to the extent no one will make any money.

I actually ran across someone's "me" page this morning which redirects the user to his own web site after about 30 seconds. That's kind of annoying, and probably against some eBay policy, but I'm sure it drives a lot of extra traffic to his site.

RainyBear...

No one (almost no one) ever goes to a ME page... ME pages are a totally useless eBay feature...(IMO) I'm sure ohters have experienced the same as I have with a ME page...Almost ( 0 ) visitors...

We have some auctions with links and they got pulled this week. Basically if all our auctions get pulled then we are out of ebay. For us Ebay was only worth the proce for advertising.

I have been using ebay for quite a few years. Use to be one got some good deals now the prices are about like retail and when I sell I get more and more bidders that do not pay. Thus ebay's value is going down. I get about half as many hits on Yahoo and the price is cheaper.

once upon a time you can list an item at 9.99 and at least 2 persons will fight over it,one placed a max of 20,the other one outbidded him by 50 cents,so you get 20.49 final bid price for your item.
now i see many items listed at under 10 dollars, some even at 1.95 >??listing fee is 30 cents, why cant these sellers go somewhere else and list them for free or have their own website for 40 dollars a month and drive traffic from ebay for those 1.95 postcards or whatever??
prices just keep falling and falling and no one is able to make any money.you heard some powerdealers who are made powerdealers by bulk loading have given up,every time they ran that bulk load program, the meter is on ,all the listing fee added to their credit card and they dont sell enough to offset that listing fee-list 5000 items per month and sold 300 items at 8.95,how do you pay your vendor and your credit card bills??
so they get ebay notices telling them to keep uploading else they lose their powerseller status?big deal ??
if anyone knows of some ways to drive traffic and just find new way of getting people to the websites without ebay, please write a book or go to oprah winfrey show or david letterman ,we want you to make some money telling the secrets.
