This is the situation. Buyer used Paypal on 8/20, I shipped 8/21, received email tonight saying she hasn't received it. Checked Stamps.com history list and item was mailed to exact address she provided. Am I worrying too soon? BTW, no insurance or DC. Is there anything else I can do except wait? Barbara
OH, and I will be requiring DC from now on.

Requireing DC wont do anything for you it's no proof the buyer got there package.
my priority packages have been arriveing with 24 to 36 with out fail this past month, thing is no matter how late the package is you still have to wait 30 days before they will track or trace it for you as lost..

If you can prove you shipped the item there is nothing to worry about. On ones I sell with insurance that is all the proof I need and if the seller doesn't pay for insurance "I" pay for DC myself. I feel it benfits me more than them to have it. After the post office or ups has the package it is not your responsibility on the delivery and you can prove it was shipped. I do not refund on items I can prove I shipped.

I agree DC protects the seller not the buyer, endica offer free DC with there online postage for some methods of shipping and dicounts others.
This might be a better deal then requiring a buyer to pay for DC..

I had one get from GA to CA in 2 days!
I had another get from GA to CA in about 10 days. Seems it got held up somewhere in the Atlanta main sorting center. But with DC I was able to keep tabs on it. Sadly, it arrived AFTER my customer went on vacation, so it's sitting out there somewhere until this Tuesday.

I would suggest you have the buyer go and check at the post office to make sure it is not being held there. I had a buyer who had not gotten theirs and suggested this and that was where she found it. Might be worth a try. I always keep my computer printed post office slips which prints out the city, state and zip as proof of my mailing and my auction as well as my invoices carry a disclaimer that if the buyer chooses not to insure, that is fine, but I am not responsible for lost or damaged mail if they make the choice NOT to insure!

It seems like you're pretty much screwed no matter what! I just had a buyer contact me that he didn't receive the pkg I sent. Used DC...Looked it up on usps.com and it was delivered a week ago. Still says not received...What to do?

trigger - tell them that DC shows it was delivered at X:XX and that they should check with family members, neighbors (if their postman is known to leave packages with neighbors) and their PO.

Priority mail uninsured you can trace after 21 days according to my post master, but it's up to your postal clerk if he/she wants to wait 30 days.
Insurance is always your best protection against theft, etc.
DC can be bought for $1.75 now and it requires a signature. Regular DC means nothing. They can scan it at the post office or at the house and leave it laying around or take it home. No protection there at all, just a waste of money.
Nothing you can do but wait it out now. It's still too soon to worry though. Plus we have the dreaded holiday coming up when nothing will move through the system.

Yeah, I tend to agree with JMHO2 about the worthlessness of the regular DC. I seldom use it because my stuff is mostly either insured through usps with tracking or sent by UPS which provides tracking & ins also. This episode has turned me off from using DC I think. I did my part by sending it and the usps says it was delivered but, in all probability, I will end up out the money. Thankfully it's only a small sum. I would not have such a cavalier attitude towards it if it were much more, though!

Hi everyone, well I emailed the buyer and asked her to wait till Friday to see if it arrived. No response yet. What I have gathered from these posts is that DC is just about useless. Thanks! Barbara

i just resolved a case of usps insured 100 dollars priority shipment which i posted in details on yahoo board.
this customer keeps saying she has not received it (shipped 8/7/01),and wants me to refund her money.
i gave her the insurance receipt number, date, clerk and id number off the blue insurance slip and now she said the problem has been resolved.
this is my sixth year selling in cyberspace,i would tell you most packages do arrive sooner or later, especially if you use their usps priority box.
most buyers are honest, some shockingly so!
but there will always be a few bad apples.
after a while you develop a feel for who is telling the truth or who is just trying to scam ,if the buyer is persistent in pursuing the matter expecially if it is not a lot of money ,chances are they are telling the truth else they will move on to the next mischief.

You might want to try Endicia instead of stamps.com. You get free DC on Priority packages.
No, it doesn't prove the buyer got the package. It has shown me that the package was waiting at the buyers PO, or if it got misdirected to another zip, or scanned at another PO. It is also enough to stop most unethical buyers from continuing to claim that they didn't get a package, I would think, though I haven't had that problem yet.
Best of all, you don't have to stand in line to use it.

One thing everyone failed to mention...
It could be lost. Forever. It happens. Really. All shipping companies. They all lose stuff.
Anyway, I factor in DC in all my ship costs.
And, I'd say everyone needs an Insurace Disclaimer like nanasturtles said.
Thats all.

DC can be bought for $1.75 now and it requires a signature. Regular DC means nothing.
So there is no confusion, DC (Delivery Confirmation) is different from Signature Confirmation, in name, price and service level.
Delivery Confirm for Priority Mail (Electronic) $0.00
Delivery Confirm for Priority Mail (Retail) $0.40
Signature Confirmation for Priority Mail (Electronic) $1.25
Signature Confirmation for Priority Mail(Retail) $1.75
Delivery Confirm for Media Mail (Electronic) $0.12
Delivery Confirm for Media Mail (Retail) $0.50
By retail, I mean you go to the PO counter and buy the service there.

Since when has the post office offered to track missing packages that are uninsured or without DC?
That's news to me.

For some reason, priority seems to be going very slowly the past 10 days, both directions between coasts.
Strange, some media is being delivered between coasts just as fast as priority. Figure that one out.
