I went to a live auction last night and picked up some really nice Candlewick pieces.
I got a 3 piece Mayo Set which includes the Bowl, Under Plate and the 3 beaded
Spoon.
After doing some search on this stuff, I've got to wonder if I should list the Spoon seperate. Its bringing as much all on its own as the complete sets are bringing.
It just doesn't seem right to me to break the set up, but if I'm to recoup my investment I probably should.
What do ya think?

Good Evening,
I decided to sell them as a set.
NetProfits2,
You do collect candlewick? Do you have a large collection? I picked up some really nice pieces last night, but the best went for way tooo much money.
I'm almost tempted to buy off eBay then hold a live auction here.
The prices they are getting at live auctions are double that of eBay.
Its not even fun anymore to go to them.
I spent the evening taking pics of my new treasures, here are the ones you asked for.

Blast you, Packer! Here's another thing I didn't know I needed. I never heard of Candlewick until you posted this. It's so pretty...love at first sight. Now I'm going to have to decide which kid's college fund to raid.

misscandle and packer,
If you're going to discuss selling/buying of these items, please take it to email.

Sara: I'm joking with her. There's no discussion re: actual buying and selling. Just general envy and wishfulness!

Packer -
Great pictures! I would give my eyeteeth to have that spoon? I am wondering, tho, do you think the spoon goes with the bowl as a set? That was my first thought when I saw them.
I live in the Midwest and am the manager of an antique & collectibles store. I have customers that come in on a regular basis looking for Candlewick, but the pattern is hard to find.
The plate, if it is a salad plate, would fetch $25-30 in the store. The bowl - depending on the measurements and the volume size - I would have to check our Candlewick price guide. The spoon - I could see old women in fisticuffs on the floor over that spoon!
I have a medium size collection - quite a few pieces of Candlewick w/etching, but I like the clear pieces so much better and have started buying a few pieces of that when I can afford to. Have you ever seen the solid black Candlewick? Beautiful!
I have purposely NOT looked at the Candlewick auctions on ebay. I know I would send myself straight to the poorhouse. Sounds like I need to check them out, and buy from ebay in order to place items in the store.
You've got the right idea about buying and selling - the bottom line is where it is at!
Thank you for taking the time to post the pictures. Thanks for the packing pictures the other day, too. Never occured to me to use egg cartons!
Enjoy your Holiday weekend.

Good Morning,
ECUSE ME...
SARA,
I don't believe I was discussing selling these to anyone here. I was asking if I should keep them together as a set or seperate and sell the spoon seperately on EBAY.
In the process, I happen to enlighten misscandle to what Candlewick dishes were.
By the way misscandle Imperial Glass Co. puts these out.
This is a learning center and if even 1 person has learnt something from this post...then I DID GOOD!!

Packer-
DUH!! Looked at the pictures in my email this morning, then after I posted went back and read your first post. Don't know why I didn't remember that you said it was a set - guess that spoon caught and held my attention!!
Good Luck w/the selling!

Hi NetProfit2,
Really, You think this set isn't a match?
I searched eBay and found these sets like this only the spoons had 2 beads instead of 3.
I found the 3 beaded spoons but they were selling them seperatly.
Your right about the clear candlewick. They had plates that were stacked and it was awesome as to how 3 demensional they looked. It was so different.
I've never seen the black pieces, but can only imagine how beautiful they must be.
As far as candlewick selling on eBay, pieces are going WAY less then at live auction.
It was really disapointing to see the low ending prices.
I did a search before I went to the auction, I'm really glad I did or else I may have been stuck with some over priced dishes to be trying to re-sale on eBay.
What can you tell me about the butter dish with the 1847 Rogers Bros Sterling lid?
Thanks for the info NetProfit2!

Hi packer...
I found your identical set in Completed...along with the 3 bead spoon. Sold for $25.51. I think I searched candlewick 3 spoon.
You always get my curiousity up in these threads...

Hi Packer
In the "Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era" book (seventh edition) by Gene Florence it shows a more shallow bowl than the one that you have pictured and it has the 3 beaded spoon.
When the spoon sits in the bowl the top bead of the spoon sits right on the rim of the bowl. There is a deeper bowl shown with a 2 beaded spoon.
Your set does look like a set though and if I had it I would list it as such. Perhaps some were sold that way when they reached the store shelves.
My mother has collected Candlewick for about 30 years now and it is beautiful when displayed in a huge cabinet. I bought her the butter dish with the silver top many years ago but I have no idea of the value.
Good luck with it.

Hi toke,
Did you also notice that on a couple of the auctions the spoon was sold seperately and they were going for $20+.
Yet the sets are selling for hardly more then that.
Figure that one out?

There is also a divided dish with two of the 3 beaded spoons that go with it, one on each side.
Perhaps people are looking for replacement spoons so you may be better off listing all the pieces individually after all?

Hi Kiara,
As with your Fostoria American pieces there are SO MANY different sizes and variations its real hard to know what actually does go with what. When I sell Fosstoria it is VERY IMPORTANT to give the EXACT size of the piece. Alot of pieces can vary by 1/4" of an inch, but just enough to make a non-match for a collector buying pieces on-line.
Why the companies do this is way beyond me.

Packer, I do think that lots of the pieces got mixed up on the store shelves before they even sold. Maybe the stock boy didn't pay attention to 3 beaded spoons or 2 beaded spoons. Or people chose pieces the way that they wanted them perhaps.
So what one person considered a "set" may not be the original way it was intended.

packer...
I really agree...separate, for sure. I don't think it occurs to people, they can actually save money buying more sometimes... Maybe it takes a dealer. I always figure I can sell the stuff I don't want, to pay for what I do want.

Packer I would hold on to this until October and then list it for Christmas. A lot of collectible glass I sell at that time are usually for gifts.
BTW it is a gorgeous set.
