Anyone had experience with these things as opposed to creams, foams, etc?

Yes, I have a house full of antique silver and it did not work for me. I use Wrights Silver Polish. The silver looks beautiful and is well worth the effort. If your selling the silver, remember if it is plate, not to use Tarnex as it can remove plate.
