Hi,
Has anyone heard of the book "Horrible Hepzibah" by Edna Mitchell Preston. I was about to list on Amazon and found it had 4 buyers waiting. I tried looking at addall and Bookfinder for some idea of a price to sell at and there is not a copy to be found anywhere. I have no idea what it may be worth. Would anyone happen to know. Thanks for any help.

Man, this is really a Hard To Find book! Nothing on abe.com. Who is the publisher? And, the publication date? Will keep looking...

p.s.: How do you know when there are buyers waiting on Amazon?

Hi Misscandle,
Publisher is Viking Press, date is 1971, it is a first edition. At Amazon when you list a book on Marketplace, it will tell you if there is a buyer waiting. Thank you for any help.

Hi,
Powellsbooks at least had the title in their database though showing as out of stock. Maybe they'd be willing to tell you what they sold it for?

I tried Bookfinder.com and a couple large bookstores and didn't find any prices. One site said it was "out of print."

I would run a real auction on that instead of wasting it on half.com

I wouldn't risk it at an auction. I recently had a pb with only one listing anywhere, and 29 buyers waiting on Amazon. The guy that bought it for 45.00 was from New Zealand what are the chances in an obscure book being found at the right time, right place etc.
I would start at some outrageous amount, the highest of any of her books listed and then some. If there's a buyer you'll know within a couple of hours. Then titrate your asking price down a little and see what happens. That's what I did with the pb. I started with 50.00,next day 49, and so on until I hit the magic number.

I have tried oldchildrensbooks.com and
everybookstore.com and it wasn't listed in either place.

Oh, I can read, but looked up bookfinder anyway!

I don't think I would be selling to anyone on Amazon until I did alot of research on this one! I think Gravid is right. This book probably deserves an auction.

I just had a 70s children's book go for around 50.00 in the past month, and it wasn't a first edition. Good luck to you.

I found it on www.bn.com in the "out of print" section, it's asking price is 74.24

We discussed this "waiting" feature in the Amazon list and it appears they aren't notified if your asking price is more than they say they will pay. So I think Jay is right, to start it high and if no bites, bring it down gradually.

The question in my mind about an auction would, what would you list it at?

There are books on Amazon, and even half that are listed for hundreds of dollars, but they don't necessarily get squat at auction.
