In our local thrift store is a very large drawing of John Wayne. It looks like it's been done in pencil and measures about 2 1/2 x 3 ft. It is signed by the artist and the signature looks like "Jay Laderups" 1988. The first name is clear, but the "Laderups" could be Taderwips or ???? The picture is quite eye-catching--very professionally done and makes you feel like old John is right there in person. Anybody have any idea on the artist's name? Value? They've got it priced at $75.

Kinda tough to do a search when you can't make out the signature. I've had the same frustration with paintings, autographed photos and books, etc. For me, $75 is a lot to pay (with intent to resell) without a positive ID on the artist.

If it's a pencil/charcoal type piece as you said of Wayne head and shoulder shot, cowboy or as a green beret Col. (Wayne late 1960's-early 70's) I know the piece. It's not worth the $75. It's a mass produced litho w/signature. Pass on it. In fact run past it...I was stuck with one (green beret) for 6 years, finaly gave it to a neighbor who's in the local vietnam vets group. Even they got a laugh out of it. Remember that film? John Wayne standing with the little Vietnam orphan boy watching the sun set in the EAST china sea!

Thanks--it sounds just as you described-it's the cowboy version of a mature John Wayne, head and shoulder shot and kind of looking at you sideways. I was looking at it more as a gift for a John Wayne fan, but was still balking at the $75. This store usually cuts their prices in half after a couple of weeks of it sitting on the shelf, and at $35 I might consider it as a gift.
