I currently have a luxury auto for sale on ebay and there's one bidder who's aggressively bidding on it and there's still five days to go.

He has 14 positives and one neg, with sunglasses next to his ID.To complicate matters, all the feedback is written in a foreign lang., Dutch, I think.

Do you worry when you see sunglasses with one neg?

If it were a small item it wouldn't matter all that much but I don't want this guy bidding up the price so as to scare off other potential bidders and then turning out to be a deadbeat bidder.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Nope I don't worry about it at all

But then again I sure don't want to pay the shipping on this item if the buyer is in holland.

All sunglasses mean is that the user has changed their "ID" or email addy in the last 30 days. No biggie really, BUT, if I was you I might consider pulling their contact info & seeing if in fact they live in the US, or not. You could also send them a polite email asking them if they plan on having this item delivered to an address in the USA?

Greetings:

Some of my fastest paying, nicest customers are the ones who have sunglasses and zero feedback.

As long as you have shipping/pickup responsibility clearly stated I wouldn't worry.

If you are you might send the bidder an email and ask how they intend to pay for the vehicle (credit card, international money order, etc) and how they plan to acquire it after payment...perhaps a little up front conversation would remove some of the worry on your side.

And who knows, the person may be coming to this country and need to have the vehicle here or have a relative here pick it up.

All things are possible...

I wouldnt be very concerned.....some of the other posters here offered some great suggestions if you feel uncomfortable.

We all had those sunglasses at one time.

And I agree........the majority of the customers (with sunglasses) that buy from me almost always pay immediately. They not only want the item but are very conscious of wanting to accumulate positive feedback as well.

I disagree with the above "don't worry" comments. When a high ticket item such as a luxury auto is up for sale on eBay I think sellers should use caution with ALL bidders.

IF the deal goes south AFTER the auction is over, eBay will return the FVF [when they get around to it], but will NOT return the listing fees, which can be a fair chunk of change on higher ticket items.

since its a vintage auto i think your concerns are legit....i would pull info and email them asking about delivery as stated above. as you say if this was a small item, no biggie, but we're talking about an auto here...i would check it out without being pushy!

I have to agree with kiawok.

My post wasnt meant to take on a non-chalant attitude about newbies.....just not to discourage a potential sale because a bidder has sunglasses.

As kiawok said.....if you feel uncomfortable then take precaution with ALL of the bidders.

As mentioned in my previous post some of the posters here offer some great suggestions!

FYI: Changing your email addy does not earn you sunglasses. Only changing your user ID does.

I welcome newbies with zero feedback, but I must admit I have NARU'd enough deadbeat buyers to think 'Uh, Oh, Shady Charcter!!' when I see the 'shades' which indicate a recent name-change.

OTOH if you block a bidder, the block will follow him even if he changes his ID.

FYI - some folks user ID's ARE their email addys.

And if they change their user ID, it won't be an email addy anymore, thanks to the new eBay policy.

I would check to see his bidding pattern on other auctions on ebay. I have had several bidders on higher dollar items with sunglasses. When I checked one recently, he had "won" over 300 high ticket items in the past 3 weeks. He was NARU'ed, but not before he caused a lot of problems for me and many others.
