When we came up from FL recently I noticed a big JC Penny sales store of to the east of I-75. I forget the exact wording but it was a return or wholesale outlet. I did not have time to get off and investigate this time but wonder if any of you are familiar with it?

I live in Macon, GA and I am very familiar with this store. It is a J C Penny's Outlet store. You can find some really good buys if your are willing to spend some time picking over the merchandise.

Thanks that is enough to make me stop and look next time I go down to see my step mother. Quite a trek from Michigan.

gravid,

There is a J C Penney outlet store here in Toledo, OH but it is only the furniture that is outlet, no clothes, appliances, etc.

Not sure if the outlet in GA is the same as here of not.

If it is furniture and such that you are after, Toledo is alot closer than GA.

Thanks - I was thinking of eBay resale goods but wouldn't you know it? - you tell me that right when I need a new couch anyway! And I drive past there to go to dreaded Akron Ohio all the time anyway.

There is a JC Penny Outlet in Kansas City (actual Overland Park, Kansas) and near Omaha Nebraska. Both of clothing - KC has clothing and furniture.

Prices are great for personal use. I do not think they are low enough for resell unless you do not mind making a very small profit.

There is also a JC Penney outlet store in Auburn Hills, MI (north of Detroit) at Great Lakes Crossing Mall...exit 84 on I-75.

Unless the merchandise has changed a great deal in the last few months there wasn't anything in the store that I wanted even if it was given to me free. Everything looked like it was left over from the 1980s and had been stuffed in a box since then.

gravid,

From other post I recall that you live in the Detroit area.

I was at the JC Penny Outlet Store at the Great Lakes Crossing about 2 weeks ago. They had about 10 sofas, and nothing that I would want. I think they were mostly store demos. Lots of housewares that looked picked over, possibly sotre returns. We were there before noon. I was in and out of the whole store in about 10 minutes.

P.S. If you travel more than 50 miles to this place, go to the customer service desk and receive coupons and discounts at participating stores.

I saw the store in Great Lakes Crossing and agree - yuck - I got the sense from the outward appearance that the store in GA is on a different scale. Will find out when I stop.
Most of these "outlet" stores don't do much for me.
We've stopped at outlet store group on I-75 south of Monroe and the only store we keep going back to is the Nike Shoe store.

Ditto, there is also an Outlet store in Grapevine, TX. The selection is spotty and variable, but when it's good, it's good.

For instance, we found the same high quality wood miniblinds that were selling in their catalog for $100/ea, that were selling in the outlet for $29.95 - plus take an extra 20% off everything in the store on that day!

They might have their name brand maternity clothes but only have them in size "S" and have 60 of them all crammed onto a rack. All kinds of discontinued colors, last years fashions, tons of junky gift type items (e.g., battery operated rotating tie rack) that didn't sell last Christmas, on and on.

If you are willing to dig, you can find some great stuff at the Penneys outlet. Same for the Old Navy and Gap outlets.

There's one here in "dreaded Akron Ohio" too. It's at Rolling Acres mall in Barberton area. What's so bad about Akron?? I've been through Michigan to see my "dreaded" outlaws and if you ask me, Detroit is the biggest armpit of all. This JC Penny Outlet has furniture and everything else too.
