Well among other things, I am selling some computers on ebay, so I have a question for all of you.
I got a great deal on some computers. Now I am torn between keeping the
1. Intel Celeron 700 MHz by gateway 64 Ram 10gb (for 300 bucks)
2. PIII by gateway, 800 Mhz, 64 ram 20 GB
(400)
I only do word processing and internet, and I don't anticipate my needs to change very much. Is there really that big of a difference between pIII and intel celeron. Both are made by gateway. what do y ou think>?thnaks

If you are looking to recoup some of your money I would immediately offer the P3 for sale. This should bring the most money.
The Celerons are good chips, with simply less cache, which does not make a noticeable difference for most apps. However many people are very prejudiced against them from the days of the Celeron 266, which had *NO* cache which did cause a notable performance hit.
My Celeron 300A is running at 464 and benchmarks within 5% of a standard PII 450.
I don't plan to upgrade till speeds reach around 3 GHZ. Actually, for the vast majority of tasks, a 200 MHz standard Pentium is just fine.

You said it all there. For internet use, the modem is the "bottle neck" (or slowest link) in the computer. As for word processing, computers have been able to keep up with even the fastest typest since the 286 days.
High end gaming, or high end CAD work is another story...
