I would like to know other sellers/bidders feelings on the software programs being used to "bid last minute". I personally hate the darned things - as a seller hate that the person is literally locking the bidding up at the last minute, which means I lose out on possible bids (have had several people complain that they couldn't get a bid in).
As a bidder I hate it for the same reason - can't get a bid in - usually miss out even though their should be plenty of time to get in. (not talking about waiting till the last second, am talking about 1-3 min. from end of auction.)

eBay can receive millions of bids at the same time. The snipe programs aren't "locking up" the bids. As a seller I love people sniping as it drives up the final price. As a bidder, it's frequently the only way to win.

i don't see how you can't bid in 1-3 minutes and blame snipers. I always snipe and my bids ALWAYS go in 8 seconds before the end w/o fail. The system doesn't know which is a snipe and which is not. How did you think this one up?

Given the nature of the internet there are numerous reasons why a bidder may not be able to bid during the last few minutes, none of which have anything to do with "sniping programs". There could be a slow server at the bidders service provider, there could be heavy traffic at various nodes connecting the bidders ISP to eBay, there could even be a slow server at eBay...
If a bidder is complaining that they aren't able to bid in the last few minutes, why not just ask them to bid earlier with a high enough bid that will guarantee they buy the item even if someone tries to run the price up at the last minute?
Should help your profit margin if all your bidders did this...
