I taught my husband how to bid on eBay! What a stupid idiot I must be.

It all started when we were in an antique store a few hundred miles from here. My husband spots a couple of art glass items he likes and is ready to shell out the $225 it would take to buy them both. My famous last words were: I bet we could find these things cheaper on eBay. Let's wait until we get home. If we don't see them, I will personally drive back here and buy these for you. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!

After putting him off for a few weeks, I decided that I either needed to teach him how to search (and bid) or I would have to do it myself. Unfortunately, he did not find any items like the two he covets. HOWEVER, he has apparently found some items that will fill the void until he does. I'm still tallying but it looks like he spent in the $150 - $175 range in two days!

The sad thing is that I didn't sell enough over the weekend to cover this buying spree. It may be time to change my password.

Wow! There are two of us who have created monsters. My husband collectes automotive magazines and he doesn't care how much they cost. I have heard so many times "This will be the last I need for my collection". Ummm right.

My husband commented the other night that he had been on the internet for 6+ years and never bid on ebay. He had that twinkle in his eye. ;(

I told him anything he thinks he wants I will be more than happy to place a 'conservative' bid on it for him.

I'm a pretty shrewed buyer now and have no desire to watch another member of my family get caught up in the newbie bidding frenzy they all go through.

Luckily he seems passified for now!

UGH! Do I know what you mean! Unfortunately my husband tends to scan British cars on Ebay MOTORS!

If I hear "Look hon...here's a cheap one in Sacremento!" (We live in S. Fla) I'm gonna scream!

Ahhh come on gals! What's the worst that could happen? I didn't listen to the "warnings" about all the time and money I was spending on eBay from my other half and ONLY the following has happened:

...Bought some stuff off eBay!

...Went on a "vacation" by myself that turned into a $5,000 buying spree in antique malls and stores across 11 states!

...Bought stuff off eBay!

...Bought 14 glass display cases (and stored them IN the house for 6 months)from a closed retail outlet!

...Bought MORE stuff off eBay!

...took out a second mortgage on the house!

...Kept buying things off eBay!

...Quit a GOOD paying management level job of 10+ years

...bought EVEN MORE stuff off eBay!

...Spent half of my 401k on a building

...yep: even more stuff from eBay!

...Opened an antique store

...bought just a little more off eBay!

...spent half of what was left of the 401k to pay the shop bills and living expenses at home the past 9 months!

...STILL buying stuff off of eBay!

But I am getting better: I only won ONE auction today!

Saw the balance at the bank today....think I will be going home and begging for help from the other half to show me how to SELL on eBay!

Gals: if there is a single piece of advice out there it would be:

NEVER EVER LET YOUR HUSBANDS FIGURE OUT HOW TO BID!

Sounds like they have "consumer confidence" to me, they are probably the last thing supporting the economy.

If they like woodworking books, send them on over to me! ;- )

Hi

No Monster need be created, ladies.

Just put in your spending plan (others like to call it the B word) how much he can have per paycheck for spending on whatever he wants. The same goes for you, too. That way, no one needs to worry about overspending.

Just keep it in the plan.

Hi

Just a little P.S. ----
When my wife and I go to the outlets and she walks out of a store that she likes - I say to her "Honey, get back in there! You need to spend more!"
