I think peiklk got it exactly right! (I used those same words last night privately.)
Dubya said four words that were a mouthful..."those who harbor them".
It gladdened my heart!

Even if bin Laden had nothing to do with this one, we still owe him one.
And if we're serious about taking on Terrorism, then we cannot leave this jerk out there hanging. So we should get him right now, while we're waiting for the results of the investigations.
President Bush rocks! If this was last year, we'd probably attack another aspirin factory -- but only if Bill was caught in yet another affair.

And just for the hell of it, go ahead and mop up Hussein just on general principles. (He ain't through yet, you know.) Then there's Lebanon....everyone saw and were infuriated by the pics from the West Bank, but the ones from Lebanon were as bad if not worse.
And then.....
(Go, Dubya!!!!)

I spoke with my elder son yesterday, (40 years old) who lives in Texas, and therefore is more familiar and aware of GW's looks and words, than those of us who have only known GW as President, are.
My son interpreted to me, saying "GW has his pissed off look; his kick ass and take names look."
I pray my son is right in his reading of GW.

Just thank God that we have this administration in place. How would you like to have Clinton, Gore & Albright dealing with this crisis? No thanks!
Bush will act with the same calculated force his father showed in the Persian Gulf War. He has the same talent to accomplish this task. Those involved will pay dearly for their actions and tho countries harboring these terrorists are now on notice that they will be saught after, as well.
God Bless America!

That's right, take names and kick ass -
It worked for the Israelis and Palenstinians ...
No wait -
It worked for the Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland
Well -
It worked for the Muslims and Serbs, didn't it? Not the Albanians and Serbs? The Montenegrans and Albanians?
Oh well, it just feels better, so we should do it anyway?

From Bush's speech -
"The American people need to know we're facing a different enemy than we have ever faced. This enemy hides in shadows and has no regard for human life. This is an enemy who preys on innocent and unsuspecting people, then runs for cover, but it won't be able to run for cover forever. This is an enemy that tries to hide, but it won't be able to hide forever. This is an enemy that thinks its harbors are safe, but they won't be safe forever. This enemy attacked not just our people but all freedom-loving people everywhere in the world."
Translation- We don't know who to go after, where to find them, or how to stop them.
edited to add- even if we do catch them, there are more waiting in the wings.

I take any opportunity possible to bash Clinton. He was truly an ineffective President.
While he was a genuine humanitarian, an attribute of his I respect, he was the wrong type of individual for the job of President. He would have been better suited in another type of Government position - like Governor of Arkansas. His Presidential foreign policy (or lack thereof) is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are today. He surrounded himself with ineffective leadership who were incapable of performing the tasks they were responsible for, and Clinton must bear responsibility for these failures. Ignoring problems and pacifying every situation Clinton encoutered did not make these problems go away...
It is now up to the strong Republican leadership of this country to bail us out of the economic and foreign policy messes the previous administration left behind.
The truth is painful. The good thing is that this administration is willing to face the realities before it. They will make the difficult decisions that Clinton chose to avoid. We shall prevail. Make no mistake about it. There will be many short term consequences and pains in solving the problems we now face, but in the long run this Country will benefit and prevail.

While my prayers are with the leadership of this country and I will join in supporting the Commander in Chief as he and his advisors make very difficult decisions; I didn't vote for him and am still leary of a President who LOST THE POPULAR VOTE, being in charge. But at this point, we ALL must be behind our leaders!
I think many Americans also hope he show a LOT MORE than his father did in the gulf war....he could have taken Hussien out, but didn't....and we don't know at this point if HE may be involved in this fiasco!
Let's LEARN from the past and TAKE OUT these dirtbags!

Your lack of respect for the US goverment at this point shows you must not be from America.
For the rest of us, please keep your comments to your own country.

There is little about this situation that will be "short term".
We have been attacked on our own soil and have few in any resources to prevent another attack. The security measures necessary will be like throwing gravel into the gears of commerce.
It would make little difference who was president, the results would be the same.
The economic effect to an already shrinking economy will be severe.
Security is the basis of any society and its economy. We lost that security on 9-11-01. This loss of confidence in the ability to protect the people and assets of the most powerful nation in the world will be devastating. Catching and punishing suicidal murderers is meaningless and adds little to confidence or security.
Restoring that security to what we had on 9-10-01 may never happen, and probably will not happen in our lifetime.

I didn't vote for GW either. But he is the President, and that is all that matters at the moment. I may not agree with his politics, but I do believe that he will do what needs to be done. And yes, I got the impression that he is as pissed off as the rest of us. I also got the impression he was trying to tell us that he is PO'ed and he knows that we are too, and to let us know that he is going to do something about it.
Anything Clinton or his administration may or may not have done is irrelevant. All that matters is what this President will do.

The President's safety is COMPLETELY out of his control in times like this. The Secret Service is to be applauded for their fine work and planning.

LaneFamily Jim- Facing reality is being positive. It is the only way to move forward.
Israel has the highest level and best civil security and intelligence in the world, and they can't stop the suicidal terrorists in any manner other than to level the earth wherever a terrorist's footprint is found. However, it is devastating to their economy.
Terrorists attack where they find the weakest point. There will be no more planes hijaked and crashed, they know better than to try that tatic again, but they will seek another way.
Bush's speech communicated that we presently don't know who to get and even if we did know who to get it becomes where to find them, and then how to get them.
It wouldn't make any difference who is president, he/she would face the same limitations.
The same person who many claim is behind this attack is the same one wanted for over 3 years for bombing our embassies in Africa. We "knew" he was in Afghanistan, but were unable to get him.
We haven't been able to stop or apprehend these terrorists since our Marine barracks was bombed when Reagan was president.
But even getting one cell of them will not be enough.

So much for the "Star Wars" missle defense system that is supposed to keep America safe. If nothing else, the horrors of yesterday show that the real threat to America's security lies in the hearts and minds of those who have no regard for human life or believe that by being "martyrs to their cause" they have a direct line to heaven.
I don't worry so much about the threat of a nuclear attack from a nation like Pakistan as I do about an attack from one of these smaller groups who answer to no one.
That said, I will be the first to support the prez, no matter how he decides to respond.
But I do hope the response is swift, decisive, and sends a loud and clear message that we are not going to put up with this, and the planet is not large enough to hide the people behind this.
God bless and keep America, and may God bless and give strength to all of those directly affected by the madness of September 11.
Just think of all those firemen and policemen who lost their lives just because they were trying to help.
Star Wars missle defense wouldn't have saved one of their lives.
If only it were that easy.

There are certain protocals put into place when something happens such as the horrible act that took place yesterday.
The president himself, no matter WHO he is, doesn't make those calls or put into place those actions.
The Secret Service did what they are supposed to do. They put the protection of the President, VP, and so on, first on the list, and they acted just as they are supposed to.
I can't believe any American could actually bash the president at a time like this. We may not all be democrats or republicans, but we are all Americans. Some of you need to grow up, and educate youselves about how things work before you start pointing fingers and calling names.

I agree. As a liberal Democrat, I believe now is the time to stand together, not attack politicians. We will disagree about policy and response, but Bush is the president and needs our support.
And, please, no more Florida debate. We'll settle all of that in the next elections, but not now.
