Would someone tell me if mail is moving in the US. I am a Canadian seller, and I have a bunch of US packages to mail. I don't want to send them if they are just going to sit and get on the bottom of a pile somewhere, but I don't want to hold them either when I have the payments, if mail is moving.

Ditto on that question...
I too am a Canadian seller, and have been sending out parcels and advising customers there may be a delay, but I would really like to know if mail is moving well in the US.
I just received a Billpoint payment to send a n item into New York City...not too sure what to do with that one!

I'd suspect it continues to move, except at a much slower pace than usual. With grounded planes the last few days, you can bet that mail logistics have been severely effected. My expectation is that deliveries will be slower and that they will not improve for a week or so.
My customers are going to be expected to wait patiently for their orders to arrive. If the prove to be impatient, I will then have to remind them of the priorities that are currently being addressed here in the world around them.

Thanks hwah...
So sounds like things are recovering well with moving mail down there...hopefully Canada post is working on a strategy to get mail across the border in a timely manner as I imagine that will be where the bottleneck will occur for us up here.

I normally receive 4-8 pieces of mail a day. Since Tuesday delivery...... nothing, nada, zip
I'm waiting on some money orders
I have mailed several packages. The USPS people assured me that they would go out though.
I agree with others here that the mail will probably be slower than usual due to the flight logistic problems. We must just have patience. America hasn't had problems like this since WWII.

As a postal emplyee-- the Mail WILL move. However, it may be much slower. Even mail to Canada, we work it here in Detroit and it can be trucked. However the lines at the border are HOURS long.

Hi,
I ask the postal clerk about Northern Virginia region area this morning--mail leaving Dulles Airport. She said that all First Class was moving (on trucks?), but Priority was still all sitting at
Dulles Airport facilities, and would be until they receive an OK to send it. So if your Priority is coming or going through there it may still be in a pile.
I don't blame them though. I would be going over every piece of mail going out or coming in. Of course I don't think we have any planes leaving yet anyway.

The clerk I talked to said today that they are accepting packages etc... but things that have to go air will just be held until our airports and the destination city airports are up and running again. They are trucking more than usual. But he said only things that are close (within a state or two away) are being trucked.

I work at a mailbox, mailing type place and I am the one who picks up the mail 6 days a wk at the post office for our boxholders...I have been getting an average amount of first class mail and bulk mail but haven't gotten any priority mail or express mail lately. I think that in some places they are holding airmail products and in some they are sending them on the trucks with the rest of the stuff so that they will move. It's a crap shoot, but the stuff will get there eventually. I have been discouraging my customers who want to send out UPS overnight or two day air cuz it's a waste of money. Using 3 day select some. Not bothering with Express mail either. No sense in them spending that much money if they won't get the same level of service. It should be all ironed out by next week...

I've heard from friends in Hawaii that Inter-Island Mail is moving by Barge.
Plus, I've heard Amtrak is getting crushed with a bigger load of mail for some of their trains. And several railroads haven't been able to pick up the slack.

I've been getting 4-6 payments in the mail per day, and I usually get 15+.
As far as UPS goes, I had a package that was supposed to be here yesterday, but it hasn't arrived yet. It was shipped via 3-day.
I had a Fed Ex ground package that arrived exactly on time today.
And I had a bidder complaining yesterday about her package not arriving, saying she'd paid "quite some time ago". Her check arrived on the 5th; her package was shipped on the 6th (Thursday). Seeing as how Monday was the last day the mail was running normally, I would be a little surprised if she HAD received it by now. I explained how the mail was moving slowly and directed her to the USPS web site so she could read their official statement for herself. She (so generously) said she would wait until Tuesday. Sheesh. (And we're talking about an item that's hobby-related -- nothing of a critical nature -- and was less than $2.50!)

Oh, so priority mail is sititng somewhere. Wonderful, I already posted about 5 bidders bitching about the mail, tonight I just recived another one screaming in caps about where is his package! I noticed a pattern, most of the complainers are in Southern California! Did this tragic incident not faze the Southern California?

I spoke with an employee at FedEX last night when I was dropping off a package. Obviously, they're not flying, but they are trucking. She said that an 'overnight' type package sent yesterday might be expected to arrive Monday or Tuesday (about 700 miles).

Everything that I have received since Tuesday at either my home address or the post office box has been junk mail and all other mail that must have already been in the system. I told my husband to box up all the junk mail and take it downstairs near the fireplace. If we go into a deep recession and cannot afford to heat the house, at least we can use the junk mail for heat.

My post office told me that they were moving mail anyway they can - rail, truck, etc. My buyers have been patient - thank goodness. I should imagine there will be more than the normal amount of mising packages.

Fedex is flying now along with other cargo carriers. The mail is being trucked (except what Fedex carries) All the mail has been repossesed from the airlines, so it is not just sitting somewhere.Possibly some could be in Canada, if all those diverted flights are not back. As postal empoyees , we are taking back any mail coming off the airlines. All the airlines have embargos on mail. The unofficial estimate I heard (RUMOR ONLY) is they may take mail on the 18th.There is a backlog, but I have to say,in my facility,it was much worse during the Northwest strike and the UPS strike. It looks like Christmas in there

I got mail today (none yesterday). I received 2 bills and junk mail.
I want to know how the PO knows to get me the bills and to hold off on sending me my payments!
My PO said everything is moving now. Slowly but moving. They are even accepting Express Mail and guaranteeing it as normal. Although he did say, express mail will most likely not get there when it should but the PO is going to refund the postage if asked.
He also said Tuesday nothing left (no packages or letters went anywhere) from that PO. By Wednesday night they had it cleared out of that PO to the disturbution center and the trucks to & from have been running the normal schedule.
