posted on September 13, 2001 11:37:30 AMIf possibly Tuesday, is the beginning of the End, coming into what we Christians would call the End Times, would it not be prudent for us to be at least as well prepared as many of us were for Y2K? As one who lived through W.W.II, although as a child, I recall the shortages and such.
Our family was totally prepared for shortages, and interruptions in commerce if the problems forecast for Y2K did come about.
Fortunately, Y2K, didn’t happen, and personally I have enjoyed doing less grocery shopping, and such over the last 2 years, as we ate through our Y2K supplies.
I am seriously concerned that what happened on Tuesday, will not be the last of such attacks we, Americans are subjected to in the coming months and possibly years. I, for one, feel much better when I am better prepared to sustain the interruption of basic commerce and shortages, if I have the supplies which we had prepared for Y2K.
I don’t believe this is a lack of faith in the Lord, in fact I think the Lord gave us a mind to use, and He told us in His Holy Word about the “birth pangs,” so that we might be emotionally, physically, and in other ways be prepared.
Even if you are a premillenialist, as I am, I personally believe, we will see considerable more pressure and tragedy before the rapture. Therefore, I personally believe we all should be prepared, at least as well as some were for Y2K.
I plan to restock our Y2K supplies, in the next couple of days before the shock wears off the nation, and others see having ample supplies is also a good idea, and perhaps prices go up. Not only is it prudent, in my opinion, but even if nothing else comes of this, it is convenient to have such supplies on hand. I individually feel more able to face such horror if I am better prepared. Just the act of restocking and shopping for such, is a good emotional diversion, and calming as one knows they are now better prepared for whatever comes in the future.

Absolutely. I'm off to buy some more twinkies and doughnuts.
Then I'm going to email Bush in support of his plan to spend billions on missle defense so we can shoot down commercial airliners.

Insightwatcher, You sound like a very wize person. I also prepared for y2k. And I also enjoyed not making as many trips to the market. I lost nothing by being prepared. But oh how many would have lost everything by not being prepared. I am very thankful they got so many things fixed in time. And yes I will be stocking up a little for this to.

I prepared for Y2K by making sure I had plenty of ammunition. I already had the guns. I figured, what good is a stockpile of food and water going to do me if the guy next door can out gun me?

This may be the beginning of the end, but not for America and her people.
The attacks done on 9-11 are no where near what would be necessary to significantly impact our delivery or products and services in surplus amounts.
Do not hoard or panic buy, first there is no reason to, and second, if the end could even be near, what the H*ll are you going to do with all the stuff you hoarded, take it with you?
I haven't even bought gas for 2 days, I'M WAITING FOR THE PRICE TO GO DOWN, WHICH IT WILL.
WHEN THE STOCK MARKET OPENS ON MONDAY, I AM BUYING !!
WHY ? FOR THE FUTURE. WHEN WE HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ATTACK AND THEIR SUPPORTERS, THIS COUNTRY WILL BE STRONGER AND GREATER THAN IT WAS ON 9-10-01.
THOSE WHO HOARD AND PANIC ARE BUYING STOCK IN THE ENEMY. I'LL INVEST IN AMERICA THANK YOU.

you people like to frighten people ,when you should be concerned
with your country instead. shame on you for hording to save your own butt.
in past wars we rationed and shared BECAUSE WE ARE ONE COUNTRY! this type
of self preservation sickens me and you should be ashamed of it and ashamed
to strike fear into any American heart. stand tall instead , contribute get
evolved be American for gods sake. (or you can hide in the basement with all
your stuff and read nostradmus) sickening.

I didn't panic buy for y2k but I was prepared as I will be for this or any other thing that might come along. As a ranchers wife I learned years ago it was wise to always keep a full pantry.

I always have a full pantry, y2k or otherwise. We are both self employed and our income varies a great deal. I like knowing that the ingredients of a good meal are always at hand. It also saves me wasting time running to the store for that one last ingredient needed for a recipe.
A full stock of food is merely prudent. I don't see how it can reasonably be called "hoarding" unless or until there is in fact a shortage. Once there is a shortage, anyone who doesn't share from their stockpile would be "hoarding". For those who stay stocked up and then are able to share, their neighbors will be thanking them, not insulting them, for their foresight.
If one really anticipates war, it might be wise to get started on a victory garden now, if you live in the south where winter crops can be grown. Or start getting tools and seeds if you live up north. Gardening is fun anyway even if it turns out not to be necessary.

Well To be honest if you were to see this as the end times as the bible describes them , First thing is Christians wont be worried about them they wont be here to see them.

Well, considering the Military rejected my Enlistment Papers on two grounds 3 years ago:
1. I'm the Only Son of My Family
2. I have certain medical conditions that would render me moot (I can suffocate by inhaling even small ammounts of Dust) on a battlefield.
I think the USA is pretty much okay without my help. But, I still can help...just that i'm skittish of needles below my neck, and i'm broke 95% of the time.

I don't see this as the end or even the begining of the end. But I do believe we might see disruptions to what we view now as the norm.

This thread is likely to go off the deep end of things, but just some points:
The "end times" began around 33 AD. Christians know that the return of Christ is always imminent. It could be at any moment. The trumpet is going to toot and we're going to scoot. In the meantime, we're watchful and ready: we seek to preserve and protect our homes, our families and our country, but we aren't heading for a bunker. Christians gave up their lives alongside atheists, Muslims, and Jews at the WTC trying to save others.
If I expect to be with Christ for eternity, I'm not going to worry about a war--even it does last for a thousand years.

petertdavis- I agree in principle that buy buy buy is good, but on the news the mayor of a mid sized town in Ohio had to shut all gas stations because of fights in the lines to get gas.

Religion is the root of all evil. I'm not talking about a belief in God or any higher power, but belief in all the foolishness created by man. Study the history of mankind and you will see that religion has caused more harm than good.
Please don't say you feel sorry for me for not having religion in my life. I feel sorry for all the foolish people in the world who are intolerant and cruel to others all in the name of religion.
I find it very ironic that the most religious people in the world cause the most harm to others and are often the most intolerant people on earth.

Foolish
FWIW Jesus was not too hip on "religion" either: that's why the "religious" people of the day got the government to execute him when they couldn't pull it off themselves without exposing their own hypocrisy.
There's a difference between "religions" and the relationship with God offered by Christianity. I'd be happy to answer questions you might have.

In our technoligically advanced age with efficient distributiution, transportation, and farming, it is highly unlikely we will ever see a food shortage like during WWII. A food hoard of one to two weeks is more than sufficient.

Speak for yourself. As a self employed person I have seen many times in the winter where 2 weeks of food would not have been nearly enough to get through the slow times. My hubby was injuried and off work all of one summer. If it hadn't been for a stockpile of well over 2 weeks we would have gone hungry. This thred is really starting be sick

We may have to pay a few bucks more to fill our gas tanks. Have you noticed how many oil producting nations have condemed Tuesday' cowards?
This should be a wake up call for us to consider our dependence on fuel. Do we really need to drive an Expedition? Can't we walk to the corner store?
During WWII, there were shortages of some consumer items, but no one really complained. It was for the war effort. Americans are creative--they will find a way to deal with any shortages.
