Doesn't surprize me. I've been watching the counters on my auctions VERY close, and between tuesday and friday, VERY few page views. Today, it was ALMOST normal. Until the page views came up, I wasn't going to list anything, but I listed a fair amount today.

There has been really good growth since the July FLD.

This weeks events have had peoples eyes glued to their TV screen.

Be positive and start posting auctions.

What does the graph actually show?

Listings or actual hits?

Is there any place that graphs actual hits?

Let em fall...less listings is better for us sellers anyway!

imagecomposer: The graph shows the number of listings. I don't think there is any daily hit count charts.

I am going to list again this week. I hope others begin to return to eBay -- sellers as well as buyers.

You see, we need to return to normal. We need to get commerce going again. Of course we won't forget what happened, but to sit around and wring our hands is what the terrorists intended.

Come back to eBay... List more than usual! Buy like it's Dec. 20th! Let's get things going again.

someone mentioned on amzn board her visa statement is due on 18th of the month.
have you folks look at your statement?
these days when you list an item for 55 cents, add an extra photo 15 cents, use supersize feature combo, one dollar instead of 15 cents extra, list in 2 categories ,reserve ,gallery pics etc etc,
if you have 30-40 items with no bids, the ones which have bids have to carry those which have no bids.
after a few months, you would think twice before you list

I might be wrong but I really think buying and selling will be off for a long time to come. People are worried about the economy and the pending war. Winter is coming and most of us aren't sure what a war will do to our already depressed economy. We must think about food and living expenses especially those of us who have families. SURVIVAL IS THE NAME OF THE GAME AT THE MOMENT. I can live without another figurine, collectible, or antique item. I can't live without food, water, housing and etc. I also think Ebay is well aware of this and thus wants to keep themselves above board with this so called charity auction. We must also remember that the post office is getting ready to add a higher cost to all of us in their raise of fees. Not many of us will contine to buy an item and pay astronomical fees to list and ship. Our stores are full of reproduction items, anything from majolica, chintz, foo dogs, etc. I can buy 10 items for $100.00 and have no inflated shipping and auction fees added. We are finally waking up out here in the real world. Maybe not WE but I certainly have. Ebay is a great company but people are tired of being used for their gain.

My auctions ended yesterday and nothing sold. One Armoire had a few bids which was less than what I paid for it. I will not be listing this week. Some of my auctions are featured and it really hurts when the item doesn't sell. I don't know how the stock market will affect all of us. People don't want to buy if their investments aren't doing well. People are still glued to their TV's. The news said people are just looking around in the malls and not buying. Perhaps it is the same on E-Bay.

We also have a few opportunists out there who want a great deal after the auction doesn't meet its reserve. My husband calls them bottomfeeders.

The only thing that seems to be selling well on eBay is gold.

The Auction for America thing seems a thinly veiled and crass marketing attempt for eBay and Billpoint.

A lot of things are sold on ebay that aren't collectibles. I just bought a lot of children's pajamas because I got a money-saving deal compared to buying the same items at the local mall.

Virtually everything I sell goes for a fraction of new prices [one reason I like to sell books...they cost too much new and I like being able to make money yet still give buyers a good deal]. People will still want to buy items to give as presents, and may look for bargains on ebay.

Practical, how-to books are also worth buying now so people can make their own presents or household items rather than buying them.

So I still think ebay has a lot to offer even - or maybe especially, in some categories - when times get tight and uncertain.

My auctions had no action between tuesday and friday, but they picked back up, and are bringing close to normal prices. Of course, I'm not selling collectables.

Strangely enough, I am getting e-mails during the auction asking me to contact them if the item does not reach its reserve. I wish they would just bid on the item. How would you handle such a request?

How would you handle such a request?

daleeric,

I handle them the same as I do those who contact me after the auction wanting to know if I'll sell it to them at their price.

I thank them for their interest but tell them this is currently the minimum I'm willing to sell the item for, but if I ever change my mind, I'll be glad to let them know when I put it back up on auction.

I let them know if they want to buy, they'll have to got through the auction format to get it. 99.9% of the time I never hear from them again.

I had a bunch of auctions end that were listed on Sunday September 2nd and ended on the 9th. I send my EOA notifications to everyone on Monday the 10th and so far I haven't received a single payment nor have I even heard from anyone.

I will send out reminders to all the winning bidders on the 16th when I get ready to re-list.

I didn't list anything this week in light of both the attach on America and ebay's Auction for America program. I kind of wanted to wait and see what was happening before I spend any more money on eBay. My Half.com sales are way down to the critical point. If this keeps up I'm in big trouble. Retailers aren't doing to much better. I know several store owners who are going through very tough times right now. Their sales since the 11th are almost nonexistent.

A report in our local paper here in Phoenix, AZ mentioned several malls aren't doing well since the bombing. They seem to think it's because people have been glued to their TV sets.

Health & happiness

Since the economy is slowing down and eBay sales not as good, I am really worried. I have bills to pay and usually sell something from my collections worth enough money to pay my bills. However, if I can't get as much, I am afraid to list. I am in a bind and I am wondering if other full time eBayers might also be in any financial mess because of all of this. I feel terrible about what has happened, but when I can't get my bills paid, I get very nervous. The mortgage co and utilities might not be understanding as I wish they could be. I have been through bad times in the last 25 years in this business and I used to buy when things were slow and prices down, but I am unable to do that right now. This makes life even more depressing. I hope the terrorists don't hear about how much this is going to affect everyone in the U.S. in many, many ways we don't want them to gloat about, but that is why they are doing this. They want to strike us in our pocket books. That's why they hit the financial district. Pam

Hi PK,

I know how you feel I am in the same boat, after a very slow summer I was looking forward to this season, but with all that has happened I am very worried, and yes your right Utility companys, morgage & others I am sure will not be understanding. I don't know how long I can list and pay fees without bids. I was depressed last week because of what happend but am more depressed this week with worring about the bills I have to pay. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

PK, I know exactly what you mean. I feel a heavy, sick feeling in my chest, the way I have felt when someone close passes away. I am far removed on the other side of the country and have no relatives that were effected at all. Two NY E-Bay Client e-mailed and said they were alright, thank God.

Part of the heaviness is the shock of the attack and the other part is worry about the paying the bills. I received an "out of this world" electric bill for the priviledge of living in California. I am very concerned that this attack will throw us into a big recession. I don't know if war will boost the economy any; it didn't in '91. The thought of war is very frightening in itself.

Thank to the two of you who know how I am feeling. I noticed a tiny jump up on the ebay chart mentioned above. I hope it keeps going up. I am finding it difficult to concentrate on getting my stuff listed with all that is going on, but I need to really get down to business.

I figure that the chart was going down because of fewer listings. I'm not sure if that is what it is counting.

I'm going to try to list more no matter what and take what I can get. I have no other choice. Wondering if anyone is getting any real bargains on ebay.

God Bless America!!! PK

It went way up yesterday. I also spent time last night searching the AFA listings. In the categories I checked, there was a lot of bidding.

My sales are just fine so far this week. Most everyone has paid up already, waiting on just two mail-in payments.

Noticed that media mail seems to be largely on schedule too. Got a book in 6 days.
