Canada Post continues to move mail within Canada and to and from the United States
Ottawa - Canada Post is making every effort to maintain business as usual and deliver items as quickly as possible. However Transport Canada has imposed interim conditions that restrict the carriage of mail on passenger aircraft. As a result contingencies are being implemented.
Mail normally carried by aircraft has been diverted to trucks and railroad, which could have an impact on service standards. Every effort is being made to minimize any delays.
Mail to and from the United States is moving on highway services. All international air despatches will be held until further notice.
Unfortunately, Canada Post is not able to offer an on-time guarantee delivery of its products until normal operating conditions resume.

CNN reports this morning that USPS has decided to allow entry of international packages into the U.S. again starting today, and that commercial airlines will also be allowed to carry some mail, if they meet heightened security & if the airport allows it.
Canadian sellers might want to keep their U.S. customers informed that packages could experience longer than usual shipping times.

If you read that announcement closely, Canada Post never said that International Mail wasn't being allowed into the US, what they said was:
However Transport Canada has imposed interim conditions that restrict the carriage of mail on passenger aircraft.
Solution - Ship your items via Surface Post, not via Air Mail.
Problem solved.
Mail never stopped flowing between Canada & the US.

edited to add ......
I'm not trying to be argumentitive, I just didn't want anyone to get the impression that mail from Canada could not be shipped to the US, or Overseas.

Actually celebrityskin,
many of my overseas customers do want their shipments sent via boat.
I just had a Japan customer request surface instead of mail as it saves them a ton of money in postage if they don't mind waiting 2-3 months.
In the past, many Australian, UK and Japanese customers have preferred shipment by boat as they are dealers and want to cut their costs as much as possible.
Admittedly, it is a pain waiting for them to get back to me and say they have received their items, but I have had no problems with it.

We had a Fed-X package delivered today. The driver said they were moving all packages "Ground" and it was taking lots longer. This package went from California to Ohio, and took from 9-10 to 9-17. All things considered, 7 days isn't too bad. However, the package looks like it was driven over and he had me open it in front of him. The contents looked ok, but he noted the crushing on his paperwork.
Slow shipping times are going to be the least of our problems I think.

I've also shipped scores of items overseas by boat. Many of my International buyers ask for that method due to the increased cost of shipping items via Air. I think if one compares Surface/Air from Canada, for items between 1 KG & 2 KG, the reason why many International customers now ask for Surface Post should be quite obvious.
$12.95 Cdn vs $34.00 Cdn
BTW - Most items sent overseas by boat arrive within 4-6 weeks. At least all of mine have.....
