posted an auction, 7 days later it was won on July 31st, received payment about 2 weeks later, waited for the payment to clear, sent package (i have the receipt to prove it), and out of the blue on 9/11/01: I received this email from him that he did not receive the package. I replied that I sent this package on this date and it'll might take a while...
then all the sudden, I received this reply:
--------------------------
ok, my records show that you recieved payment at least a month ago. so
unless you mailed the comics last week, terrorism would have no effect on
the mail. stop jerking me around. you have til wednesday. if i do not have
the books by then, i will report you as a deadbeat seller to ebay. no more
games.
--------------------------
hmph he did not accept the option of a tracking number NOR insurance and he wanted media mail....

What comic character does this whacko think he is?
The Joker or the Riddler?

How long did you have to wait for payment to clear? I think you should remind him of the pertinent dates involved: date payment arrived, date it cleared, date item shipped. I would also go ahead and email him a scan of the receipt and tell him that if his package does not arrive within 30 days of the date of shipping you will be happy to help him start a trace on it through USPS (assuming that is how you sent it). No point in getting into a debate with the guy. I would not have involved Square Trade at this point, but that is certainly your prerogative.
It sounds like a simple misunderstanding that could have been rectified through communication. (Did you let him know when his payment arrived or when his item shipped? I find that those emails reassure bidders & diffuse problems such as this before they occur.) JMO...

If you sent the package on August 9th, your original timeline is not adding up right (unless I am reading it wrong).
it was won on July 31st, received payment about 2 weeks later, waited for the payment to clear, sent package
That would make payment received around August 14th and item shipped around the 28th with a 2-week hold.
In any event, the USPS site states that mail delivery is back to normal. I would still send the guy a scan of the receipt and offer to assist him in filing a Lost Mail Claim just to assure him that you are not trying to rip him off. Wouldn't you be upset if your package took that long to arrive? I would be. (I wouldn't have been a jerk to the seller right off the bat, however )

square trade is useless unless both parties agree to useit.personally i think they are arrogant and sellers need to handle their own problems, UNLESS things have really gotten out of hand. your running to them right off the bat show a tremendous lack or refusal to provide customer service.....customers like that are part of selling online and you should learn to deal with them just a bit more than it seems you do....

all righty,
yes it was confirmed that when he declined the insurance, he assumes ALL responsibility of the lost package...
I'll file a lost package tracking form at the post office...
siggghhhh.... there are times I feel like doing bad things to the emails :P like mooning them
