Hi all! I would appreciate any help with the value of the following item:
A friend of mine is considering purchasing this from a local dealer, but she wants to be sure she is getting a fair price . This is the info she gave me about it:
"This chest is a bar. It is 5 feet high and more with the lid lifted up
to reveal where you keep the liquor bottles. ..the rounded sides open up to hold
wine
glasses, and on the flat side are doors that have shelves in them. The
lid on top lifts to reveal the girls, but their pearl outfits are not
inlaid they are 3D...as is most of the other pearl....there is alot of
inlay on it and there is brass pulls and shell handle pulls....It is
absolutely beautiful. Do you have any idea what they call this bar in
Japanese? I wanted to look for it online but have failed so far to come
up with a TYPE of bar this is."
Can anyone give me any ideas as to what to search under to get an idea for the value?
Thanks!

Usually these are refered to as a 'drinks cabinet'. The form is basically English, there is no real US equivilent. I would doubt this has much if any age on it. The finish is lacquer. The inlay is usually a molded aggregate of ground up MOP, but some better ones are carved. Believe they are made in Thailand in imitation of Japanese style. No idea of value. Dale
