I always seem to know just what I'd do when I read somebody else's dilemma, but I'm unsure this time! I'm pretty sure I won't comply with the request, but...

I got this message this morning:

------------------------------------------

To member: me!
From member: ********

I bought something from ******** OUT of auction.. he never sent it to me. so I can't get his phone number from ebay unless I've dealt with him through ebay.

So, i need you to go to this site: http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MemberSearchShow

and get **********'s contact info for me by typing in the item number that relates to him, in your case #1*********.
You'll get an email with his phone number and other info. PLEASE I BEG YOU forward this info to me, I think he's conned me and I NEED to call him. Thank you sooooo much.

-********* (he signed his name)

This email was sent by an eBay member via eBay's email forwarding system.
If you reply to the email, your response will go directly to the member and
not through eBay... etc., etc...

-----------------------------------

I checked the feedback of the person who send the message, he has nearly 400 with only 1 neg more than 6 months ago. Both have been pretty active.

Now of course, I'm not going to send ANYBODY an eBayer's contact information... forget it! What I'm not sure about is whether to
a) respond to the request at all (no!)
and/or b) forward the message to the subject, to let him know what's being said.

I'm kind of stuck on that one. What would you do?

Thanks!

Personally, I would ignore it and do nothing. Unless it has something to do with you, don't get involved.

I wouldn't get involved. This could come back and bite you.

I wouldn't even reply to the e-mail. If this person needs a sellers contact information I'm sure he can figure out how to get it without getting you in the middle of his "out of auction" problem.

Here is an easy way. This doesn't mean I advocate being a deadbeat but it would work.

1) Set up another ID
2) Bid on the seller's auction
3) Win and don't pay
4) Use this to get his contact info.
5) Write him under your regular ID (the one you used when he conned you).

I have, on occasion, bought off of ebay.
It is a risk you take.Even if he does contact the seller, this may do
no good. Ebay sure isn't going to
give a rats behind about the matter.

Probably good advice to e-mail him
the location of this thread...and not get involved otherwise.
