Last time I posted my pet peave about foreign bidders asking me to lie on custom's forms I was chastised by the majority of the respondents. Both foreign and domestic. We have always refused to perjure ourselves on the forms. I was just wondering if you who were willing to 'bend the rules' were still as charitable in light of recent events.

From the discussions here, it does not seem the majority of seller's here are lowlife scum who would lie on a customs form. We've had some say they would, but I seriously doubt a majority would.

You say the majority of posters here chastised you for refusing to lie on customs forms? Whenever I've read threads about that issue, most of the posters support the "Honesty is the best policy" side of the issue.

Pet peave?? You might want to try PEEVE.

I guarantee that if Americans had to pay duty and taxes on everything they had brought in from another country they would be DEMANDING that the seller list the item as a gift.

However, be that as it may, I really don't see why y'all get so bent out of shape about this and insist on starting numerous convoluted threads on AW! All you have to do is remind the bidder that you will be marking the value as the auction ending price.

In fact, many of the threads here would be eliminated if sellers (and buyers) demonstrated a little common sense and professionalism and didn't feel compelled to tell the world everytime something didn't go their way in an auction....

All you have to do is remind the bidder that you will be marking the value as the auction ending price.

And all buyers have to do is not request this from the seller. If a seller marks an item as a gift or lower their merchandise value as a business practice -- fine. They assume the risks and responsibilities. In my opinion, it is not reasonable for a buyer to request this from a seller.

But, but, but....isn't it professional to moan and grumble about one's customers? Isn't it normal for B&M merchants to verbally flog their customers publically?

Engelskdansk...get thee back to business school. You need to learn how to be a real business professional

This is the ONLY place I have to vent my frustrations. Be they about customers or respondents who feel it necessary to critique minor spelling errors.
I was blasted last time for refusing to lie and it bothered me. So here I am again. Yes, its a new thread, yes, its an recurrent thread, but it's my thread. If you don't like it, take your spell-checker and leave.
My terms and customs rules are clearly stated in my auction invoice and buyers still ask, repeatedly.
As for DEMANDING, we would DEMAND our lawmakers change the rules and lower the tariffs. Why don't you do the same.

Hi uranis, be honest. Don't lie. End of story. (dang if that doesn't sound like Victor Newman!!)
99 1/2% of my Canadian bidders are just the best and have never even asked about that gift issue on the forms.
Really, it's not that big of a deal-stand firm.

I have it in our TOS that we follow all customs laws to the letter but still have the "gift" card thrown at us every month or so. Now and then we lose a sale over it but I for one don't like the feds looking up my skirt. Didn't spell check this sorry ;P
