With all that we have been hit with the past 2 weeks, maybe ALL of us on these threads could use a good laugh! Let's make this thread a FUN one and just start to feel good again.....OK? Buyers & sellers alike should be able to contribute and even laugh at each other when it fits!
Add YOUR favorite "what they REALLY meant to say" from an auction or buyer emails or even those wunnnnnnnerful folks that care so much for us at ebay........
Personally I ALWAYS get a kick out of anything battery operated that includes the line: "didn't have batteries...don't know if it works" which should REALLY MEAN:
"Tried the new batteries out of the flashlight in the kitchen junk drawer and the thing DIDN'T work....but maybe you will bid higher on the CHANCE that it does if I don't mention that fact!"
OR MAYBE IT MEANS:
"I can afford a computer, the ebay fees, stock to sell, and a digetal camera, but I CAN'T afford a $1.89 set of batteries to test things with!"

This is the e-mail I received from a buyer this morning. It has been at least three weeks since her auction ended.
I'm sorry, but I have been out of town for several days & away from a computer. Some unexpected things came up & I honestly forgot about all of the auctions I won. Not to mention that I am still in shock on what happened on 9-11-01. I bid on several things on the same week-end & had no idea I would win most of them, so I've got to send an apology letter to a lot of people. I get paid again on Friday & will let you know this week-end on exactly when I will be sending payment. If I have enough room I will pay by credit card to make it easier. If not I will send a money order. Again I'm sorry for the delay, but I will pay for it, don't worry, I'll e-mail you again this week-end. Thanks for your understanding & cooperation.

We have over 100 item listed every week on eBay. (We have a fixed shipping cost of $2.50 for up to 5 items.)
I just received the following email from a winning bidder:
"Do you have other items I can buy or bid on? I don't want to pay so much shipping for only one item. That's not practical. Thank you."

time to laugh or cry? This was the last email I received from this bidder, dated September 1st for an auction that ended on August 14th.
"I am sending it right out via "snail mail". Unfortunately, I am unable to get into Ebay to leave very positive feedback for you. I received a 3rd nonpayment warning. They accused me of not keeping in contact with my sellers. I have always tried to keep in contact with everyone. I told them I only hope and pray that they never loose a child or anyone else close to them. If they do, I pray they will receive more understanding than I have. I have decided Ebay is not worth fighting for any longer. I have received enough threats from them, and I can't deal with it any more.
I want to sincerely thank you for everything...your patients was more than expected!
May God Bless You and Your Family Always."
Now here it is the 26th, and still no payment. Will just file the good old FVF in a few days.
Why does it seem my higher priced items are paid for pronto and everything goes well. It is those margainal $9.99 items that a bidder wins that gives me more gray hairs.

My favorite:
I don't know a thing about XXXXX but hopefully you do.....
Which usually means, I am an expert and this is really of no value, but I got stuck with it in a box lot and I'm trying to at least re-coup my investment.
Or when I see something like:
gold? diamonds? I am no expert so you'll have to decide....
Which usually means, it's plated and CZ but I hope you are a gambler and will take your chance that it is real and I was just too stupid to have it looked at by a professional before listing.

Auction ended on the 10th sep,
On the 16th buyer sent email:
I will pay via Bidpay.
On the 18th :
I will pay via MO
(I remind her that I expect payment in 8 days, due to recent events 16 days)
On the 20th I get an email asking why is shipping $7.00 when priority is $3.50
Explain her my reasons, show her
Text in auction and my about me page
For full explanation,
Today 26th I get an email:
I will pay via MO since I feel that is the right thing to do.
The right thing to do would be to pay me on time, not 16 days later to decide to send a
Payment ....Maybe...

The all time best for me is still the bidder who told me in January 2001 that she is soooo sorry, but her mother died, and she is in no position to spend the money that she bid ($12.99). Ok, I'll buy that, filed a no-fault NPB, moved on. 6 months later, same bidder same kind of item, she snipes, wins the item. I send her an invoice. She doesn't reply. I send her another in a week. I think we all know what's coming here- "Sorry, my mother just died, I am in no position to pay for the item... My sincerest apologies..." I was going to ask her just how many mothers she had, but I resisted the temptation...

Just thought of another one that I have had sent to me as a seller more than once:
"When I bid I was planning on paying with a check, but now I see you don't take them. If I can't pay by check, I'll have to pass"
Really means:
I read your TOS, but I didn't like the terms so if you want to sell this item to me then you will just have to make an exception in your TOS and take my check and I'm hoping your hungry enough to do that!
My auction TOS says: Payments can be made through PayPal, Billpoint, BidPay, or with money order or cashier's check. Need more information or have any questions EMAIL ME (with a clickable link)!!!! I try and make it as easy for them as I can to "ask before bidding". They don't even have to scroll back up to "ask seller a question" if they don't want to, just click right where they are and presto..their question is on it's way to me, don't see how I can make it any simplier for them.
I have my reason for NOT taking checks. I do make exception when emailed ahead of time on a case-by-case basis. It works for me.
