Hello,
My husband is starting on eBay nov 5th
He will have $5 Nr clothing auctions, about 200
Up to 300 a week, at that rate he decided
To use Paypal, since it is the easiest way
(he thought so, I wont coment )
I know he has to open a premium
Account, so I was hoping you could give me/him
Any problems or horror stories he should look out for, I rarely read the paypal threads,
So if this is a repeat please forgive me,
I was hoping for some sort of a sumary
Of all the stuff that Paypal does that he should know about but they wont tell him.

Thank you

Your best advice is to have him read the PayPal Thread on many fourms. Then proceed with great caution based on what you have read. First tip, empty your account nightly.

Hi,
Why empty it nighly?
I heard about charge backs, does it prevent it?
Or do they do something to the money if it stays there?
thanks

The following is a proven method for avoiding CC charge-backs:

DON'T ACCEPT CC's!

Other than that...you are liable for chargebacks whether ya use PayPal or BillPoint.

PP offers a slight (very slight) amount of Seller Protection...BillPoint offers NONE!

The vast majority of PP users are delighted with the service. However, when things go wrong (sometimes your fault and sometimes PP's fault) PP has a history of NOT handling it well!

Over the past 3 mos, I feel that they have attempted to improve. Are they 100% successful? NO! But they are at least trying.

If ya want 100% safety...accept cash & PMO's!

He doesnt want MO's
I personaly take only MO or BidPay
For my auctions, but no one likes to pay BidPay fees (buyers) and MO takes forever,
He will have 3 day auctions with fast turnover...
If you see a new post on nov 10th
You'll know it didnt go well

Nope, not a troll. I have seen Laiochka's posts many times on AW. :0)

I didn't know how to search the message center threads until very recently, but it is very easy. Just scan down to the bottom of the page where it says "site search" and click on that link. From there you can search all of the message boards on AW. Pull up Paypal problems and that ought to give your husband something to read about it.

Personally paypal has been okay for me. No real complaints.

Good luck!

I dont know what a troll post is but anyway...
I saw most of those threads for Paypal ,
Every single one that I read was a complaint,
Not many had a solution, I know already thanks to those posts that he will have problems,
I wanted to find out if there is a way how to prevent them or know how to solve them.
Like buyer paying with stolen Cc, what should he do...?
Or Paypal not releasing the funds to the seller and etc....
He doesnt want MO's cause they take week or more...
Ashlandtrader, I'm not really sure what to say to your first coment...

Take MOs, checks, PayPal and Billpoint. Cash too!

For those not completely clear on the concept, you are selling a product, not a TOS. There are a zillion obstacles to getting someone to bid and pay. Make it easy for your customers--the easier the better.

PayPal has had less than a stellar rep and seems to be not a little bit user unfriendly in the customer service department. Use with caution.

You will get what you expect. I have used PP for over 2 years, hundreds of transactions, not one problem. But I believe that you will not be so fortunate.

I have had no problems with paypal. I do keep my balance at less than $100.00, just for my own peace of mind.

Other people tell about problems, but all programs have problems.

My regular bank once lost a large deposit and bounced all of my outstanding checks, they didn't go belly up just because the computer blew a screw that day.

Paypal is like everything else in your life, you trust it as far as you can and always keep one eye open for problems.

I have had no problems with paypal either...Just be sure to follow the rules. And expect the (slim) possibility of problems if you ship to an address different than the one given on the paypal payment email. (Unless the payment doesn't come from a credit card; then you're pretty safe.)

ship every item with DC and Insurance, if they claim they didn't get it you can use the DC to beat the problems with the PayPirates and if you don't beat it go back on the insurance.

We now only ship items paid for by the PayPirates Via UPS, they have the best tracking and every item is insured up to 100.00 they claim they didn't get it you have great tracking, and the insurance to fall back on.

Down side is everybody under the sun will #*!@ and complain about how much UPS shipping is, well unless you have your own account and you charge then your cost. we add the PayPirates fees to the actual shipping as a handling charge, yes people complain if they don't want to pay it they can send a check or MO.

One of my biggest pain in the A$$ problems with the PayPirates is you'll get clueless people that will send the cost of the item at the end of the auction, then they will send another email and payment saying Sorry I forgot to send shipping, then if your real lucky you'll get another payment saying I decided I wanted to insure it. so the PayPirates take .30 and 2.9% of every one of those payment. It's even better when it is a 5.00 item like you say he is going to list. pay all your ebay fees and the PayPirates x 2 or 3, the cost of the item and your working probably less than a buck an hour on that transaction.

We now only make payment requests, it takes longer but if the total is 10.00 and you don't get 10.00 you only have yourself to blame.

Be prepared for another fee increase the next time ebay has a free listing day, or in the first part of December.

Only someone "dumb as a box of rocks" would say:
Most of the people that have/had problems are "Dumber than a box of rocks"...Can't follow simple rules...Those very same people have eBay problems all the time or so it seems...

As you want to call me dump I don't see any harm in doing the same to you. I have had 4 chargebacks all had DC and all the people gave me positive feedback. About a month later in every case I get a email from the PayPirates saying that they need to investigate the sale, I send the USPS DC and about 3 weeks later I get emails and in one case a phone call, either you give the money back or we will remove the monies from your account and take a 15.00 service fee. So far it has cost me 340.00 in lost merchandise, shipping, PayPirate fees, and eBay fees.

so MR Box of Rocks just because you haven't had problems doesn't mean other that have followed the rules haven't. One thing about the PayPirates is those rules are far from written in stone, more like chalk on the sidewalk.

Dear Wranglers,
Thank you so much for your post, that is the exact thing I was looking for, thank you.
Also thanks to Rariffle and tigerfish,
You know you get good stories and bad ones,
I hope that he wont have too many problems,
Since I had minimal experience in Pp dep.
I thought that it would be good to get some info about them.

MrBucks,I never saw you and I never offended you in any way, so I really dont see a reason for you to be so rude.

I managed to convince him to use DC
And I like the UPS idea, since he gets that and insurance in one.

I know I have only 80 transactions on ebay
And he has 0
That's why I came here to ask for help and your opinion, most of you have more
Experience, and I value your advice.
Thank you all
Good night!

LAIOCHKA,

I have been with Paypal from the beginning. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I have had charge backs before; I have had someone else’s complaints applied to my account, and a few other minor things. The thing is, it's business. Whether you are selling trinkets out of your house or a power seller it's all just chance. In the event you do get a charge back, you can claim that loss on your taxes at the end of the year. Although I must say that it's getting pretty darn expensive these days to have these auctions. Ebay, Yahoo, Paypal, Billpoint and so on.... are getting more and more expensive to list items and receive the payments for them. Ebay once sent us an invoice for $33,500, which should have been only $3,350. But like I said earlier, you have to take these chances if you want to do this kind of business. In my experience, people are usually good people, but then again, I had a charge back for $2300.00 just the other week (ouch) If your husband should have any other questions and not just opinions, he can email me at [email protected]
