Back on November 7, 2000 I posted a dutch auction for a widget. I sold 17 and there were a few deadbeats that never paid.

TODAY I received the following e-mail:

"Hello,I will be paying threw pay pal on auction number # XXXXXXXXX.

Please send my order to :
XXX XXXX
PO Box XXX
XXXXX,Ca.XXXXX

Thanks!!"

I’m speechless. I can’t believe anyone in his or her right mind would do something like this. Were talking 10 months ago. No excuse, no explanation, or anything. I don’t even have these widgets any more. They were sold on eBay long ago.

Have any of you run into anything like this before? What did you do? This is just nuts

Yes, recently I had a customer that won a watch from us on Feb. 1999. They never paid and we left a negative. The person wrote to us last week and asked why we had made a negative comment. They stated that there was no eBay number on the comment (in 1999, eBay did not put them on) so they couldn't research it.

After I told them what had happened, they said they would still like to buy the item. This is 2 1/2 years after the fact. Like you, I had sold the item years ago. Our last contact was a very tersely worded email from the customer telling me that I had no right to sell the item which they had rightfully won and that I would be reported to safeharbor. Lots of luck on that one. However this IS eBay's safeharbor so nothing is a "gimme".

I would not waste my time to even answer this. Next. Ten months is way to long.

I'm with gs4, ignore the email, and if they paypal, ignore that too or reject it. They have no recourse on ebay to do anything (i.e. negative feedback) so no need to deal with them.

And I think I'm behind on my "To Do" list!

kolonel22,

If you wanted to mess with their mind, thank them & ask them how they liked the widget you shipped to them back on November 10, 2000.

They probably just got their third FVF filed against them and are trying to get reinstated by cleaning up their mistakes.

I've had a few of these--the system does work on occasion, when for whatever reason bidders aren't willing or can't open another ID...
