Today, I get a handwritten note in my mailbox:

The Priority Mail you have been sending out is being sent onward as Postage. With Delivery Confirmation the lowest rate is $3.90

Priority 3.50
Del Conf. .40
------
3.90

Can not find a phone number for your company to call you.

Thanks,
xxxxxx

Well, I don't know how long it's been going on, though I haven't gotten neg'd yet. I just couldn't see straight when I heard it, and am so frustrated to wait until morning to land on the PO with both feet.

Any ideas about how to handle this? Hopefully I'll be back to more patient and diplomatic by the morning.

No real clear what you is saying??

If your mail person is rejecting your items because he does not understand electronic DC??

If so...I had the same problem with my PM -- a real jerk! So, I called Endicia who called their PO rep who then lit a fire under this bum's bum!

Now they treat my like the Mail Authority whenever I come in! (LOL!)

Hi Tom -

Thought you'd be first here! LOL

Here's the rub - we leave our packages on the commercial mail dock. Some bozo decided to go ahead and send them to my customers POSTAGE DUE!!

Now I have a customer problem and an USPS problem! I won't know until tomorrow if this is a one day or multiple day problem. The way the note is worded, it sounds like they've been 'helping' me by sending the mail on for a while.

Hey Siddharta: Yeah, that's why I decided NOT to leave my items at the dock like my PM invited me to! By going to the window, I was able to educate each clerk AND observe the packies going into the OUT bin!

Remember though, this ain't an Endicia problem but rather your PO problem! Hey, the USPS itself offers FREE e-delivery confirmation with its print-out form!

I would goto the PO and demand from the PM that an apology letter be sent to each customer! If no satisfaction from PM, then call your local USPS Consumer Affairs office & raise $%##

There is a lot of info on the USPS web site. Publication 91, Confirmation Services Technical guide - outlines the services.

Try this adress

http://164.109.64.170/front2.asp

It takes you to the Online Services Guide and has a summary description of the FREE if Priority Mail or $.12 option for Media/Standard mail DC.

I sent my first two out using the USPS webform for Electronic DC - worked like a charm - I plan on doing all my priority mail packages that way now. 8)

Thanks for the web information. I printed it out and took it to the PO.

As it happened, the person who put on the postage due was standing right there, as were 4 of 5 desk clerks. They got the two supervisors, and we all had a discussion of the issue. The supervisor claimed to have never heard of anything like this, but said it was hard to keep up with regs that change and are buried in the Postal Bulliten. A couple of the counter clerks knew about it already. I felt good that there was almost a full staff meeting right there, and that everyone got the education they needed.

I didn't ask for the apology letter, but I have emailed all of my customers. It was only one day's worth, and not all of my packages were Priority (so no DC). I'll wait to hear from them, and get a letter if I have someone who doesn't believe me.

the USPS itself offers FREE e-delivery confirmation with its print-out form!

Of course when you do this, you have to educate the postal clerks so they won't try to charge you for the DC. I had enough forsight to take my half of the print out with to have it date stamped.

One more thing ...

The nightmare is the USPS, not Endicia.

I think one of the highlights of my eBay business changes was the day I dumped stamps.com and moved to Endicia. It is well worth the minimal cost!

One question on the USPS Priority label/ DC.

I used it for the FIRST time today and of course my PO workers had no clue as to what I had. He tried to scan the barcode and it would not scan and then tried to manually put in the numbers with no luck. Are they scanning these when they accept them for you all? How can they be traced if they do not scan??? I hope I missed something and I took my print out but did not even think about having them stamp it.

Thanks

THEY DON'T SCAN AT THE COUNTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You electronically sent it to the PO when you printed -- it will be scanned at a regional PO warehouse; mine is in Springfield @ 10:00PM every night!

The reason DC is FREE is because the window staff DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING...thus enabling the PO to CAN some of them in the future, saving BIG BUCKS!

Great! Thankyou very much. I was really hoping that was the case.
