Hi, this is kind of strange.

Yesterday an eBay package that had been mailed Priority to the U.S. on August 8th was returned here marked "Unclaimed" along with a stamp indicating the U.S. post office tried to deliver it 2 times.

This was for a really fine antique inkwell, the bid price was over $250 U.S., and my postage cost was over $18 Canadian (note the bidder had only been charged about $7 Canadian for postage, but I wanted to ensure it got there quickly & safely.) The original payment cleared way back in August of course & there haven't been any reversals.

I never heard from the bidder that it had not arrived.

I pulled their contact info, phoned yesterday, heard the man's voice in the background say "Tell him I'm in bed, I'll phone tomorrow." So far no call.

A couple of questions:
How much should I pursue this if they don't contact me back?

Regarding postage, who pays now if it needs to be re-shipped? And if the bidder should pay, how do you handle that?

I think you have done your part, you shipped it to the right address, and you have called them, now it's their turn to contact you. They should pay to have it reshipped, if indeed it was shipped correctly before. I would give them some kind of deadline to contact you.

The bidder must pay to reship. Charge them the correct postage, no point in you eating that amount.

You have gone out of your way to try and contact them, so now the ball is in their court.

Its not your job to hunt anyone down, wait till they contact you.

They should check with the post office in their town if the parcel does not show up.

Sometimes the postman may forget to leave a parcel pick up card, or it got lost.

You should not have to incur more costs with long distance phone calls etc. Best of luck.

I agree - you've got the money, you've made the call, they own the merchandise.

OTOH, if they used a charge card, you may be out of luck. They could reverse the charge for quite some time.
