The best way to attract buyers is to have a quality product and an attractive looking ad. I use Sellers Assistant Basic to create the ads.

Yes, attractive listing pages do a world of good. I cannot take a seller seriously if they have anything blinking, flashing, capital letters everywhere, and item descriptions that are either too short or WAY too long.
Go out of your way to be extra nice to your first buyers and get some really great feedback.

Heres my suggestion.
Before you go paying for an auction assist program, go do some searching and looking around on eBay to see what appeals to you.
If if find something you really like e-mail the seller and ask questions.
JUST REMEMBER...KEEP IT SIMPLE.
You can make an attractive ad with all the specs you need without PAYING for a program to do it for you.

Welcome to ebay & AW and best of luck to you.
I would suggest you spend some time looking around ebay & find an area in which you have knowledge or special interest.
Then learn as much as you can about that area.
Then the hard part, finding items to sell. Most of the sellers have worked long to find good sources and suppliers. It's not something we generally share (sort of our "trade secrets".
But, depending on your area of interest, you can look around flea markets, garage & estate sales, thrift stores or perhaps look for wholesalers/distributors.
You also might want to look at people's auctions on ebay to see what kind of terms of sale you will want to have, what kind of auction software you may need.
There's a lot of work involved, scanning or photographing pictures of your items, having a place to upload your pictures, designing and creating auction descriptions, developing terms of sale and deciding which payment options you'll take.
There's a lot to learn here at AW from successful sellers.

I disagree with "attractive" ad. All it needs to have is:
Complete and accurate description
Clear TOS including shipping charge
Sharp photos.
No fancy stuff like backgrounds, spinning pictures etc.

I suggest before you start selling you bid on and win a few auctions.
It will give you an idea of how things work and what you like or dislike as a customer.
And you'll get better prices if you have some feedback before you start to sell.

Honestjonstoys has given you the advice I give people who decide they want to sell on ebay. Buy first, get several good feedbacks, even if you're just buying cheap items. Get a feel for what the buyer goes through and expects from the seller.
Recently I made a vow that I don't tell anyone how to sell on ebay until they have at least 10 +feedbacks. Too much ground to cover, too little time! By buying first, for a while, you learn volumes.

List items that are in demand and not easily obtainable anywhere else,no one wants to pay shipping on something they can get at their local stores. Keep it simple and to the point, no need for any auction programs at all or picture hosting services either
