Got this at an auction. They had a lot of train stuff there too. Anybody know what it is. BTW, I'll probably need help with the link too. Thanks! Barbara

Looks like a model or toy water tower, and it looks home made to me. Kind looks like they used a coffee can? Pretty cool!

A water tower used at train stations for steam engines. Given that my train of thought is frequently derailed, I'm not sure if they didn't also use it for oil for some trains as well.

Looks suspiciously like one of those "projects" the den mothers were so good at getting us (& dad!) involved with in Cub Scouts back in the 1960's......

No, train water towers had a pipe out the bottom of the tank that went up at an angle, with a rope that you pulled to make the pipe come down so the water would flow into the train engine boiler. That's why some towns were called "jerkwater" towns.
To me it just looks like a town's water supply tower. You see plenty of them out west, Texas small towns etc. They usually have the Town's name painted on them.
