Is anyone else having problems sending packages overseas?. I shipped a book and the top of the box and a letter was sent to me stating to go to a PO and I could collect my postage refund since they found an empty box. The book is gone. It took almost 2 weeks from the time of shipment that I received the letter. It was in a brand new box that wraps around the book and sticks to itself with glue. On top of it I taped it up. I did get my postage back. So I re-sent the book in the same type box about 2 weeks ago and today I get the same form letter explaining they found an empty box and I can collect my postage. My poor customer is never going to get his book as I can't believe this has happened twice to the same customer and am sure he is not going to believe this.

I'm not clear on what Customs (which country?) has to do with this. And, if the book was "gone" .. how did you manage to "resend" it the second time?

Squeeky--I do believe customs has the right to open and re-package any package going out of the country. I have several copies of the same book so I sent the customer another book. I was told to fill out a tracer for the lost book but it has yet to show up and I assume it is gone.
Commentary--Spain and the package weighed around 3 pounds.

Yes, Customs does have that right. It was just that in your first post you didn't specify where the item was being sent from and to .. so as to know which country's custom office you are referring to. I see now that it is to Spain.
If it was by chance being mailed to Canada, Canada customs does stamp the parcel with the information that the package was opened and inspected. They also will stamp a package with a "cleared customs" stamp, even if they didn't open/inspect it. I can't say what other country's Custom's offices do.
I guess what I was wondering is why you think that Customs lost your parcel's contents ... it could have perhaps never made it to customs in the first place. Is there any evidence of the box/tape being cut open? ... or does it just appear as ripped? That might help the PO have a clue as to what happened to the contents.
Best of luck in having the lost items traced!
(doh .. edited to reflect that you said it was sent to Spain in that last post)
