What is the best (safest) way to ship a diamond ring? Value approximately $800. Thanks for any info...

Postal Service, REGISTERED INSURED FIRST CLASSS MAIL with buyer's signature required.

They will seal EVERY seam of the package and transport it in locked cages or locked bags.

I'd have to agree, definitely Registered Mail. It will take longer to get to the person but that's because of all of the security. As abacaxi mentioned, every seam of the package is stamped and it is always kept locked. A detailed signature sheet follows the item that anyone touching it must sign.

Just wanted to add, that if you live in a small area, your postal clerks may tell you it can't go registered that registered is for stocks and securities or documents. I had to ask for the postmaster to come and tell the clerk I could indeed send jewelry registered!

The package is taped shut as mentioned above and then stamped all over. The tape must be paper tape. I had sealed it up using clear tape (trying to save the PO time) and they had to redo it at the PO.
